    Jiddu Krishnamurti was born in 1895, and died 1986. His is considered a great teacher in both the East and West. His teachings have changed the lives of many readers to this very day. He called himself a world teacher, stating that his only purpose was to set man free.

    He was raised by the Theosophical Society, a religious order who believed that he would become the next "World Teacher". However, not long after he assumed the leader position of his order, the "Order of the Star", he dissolved it, stating that Truth was a pathless land. The rest of his life was dedicated to traveling through the world, giving talks and writing books in an attempt to educate and intrigue.

    While his personal life is somewhat of a mystery, his public teachings are often insightful.

    A few quotes:

    "If, living in the world, you refuse to be a part of it, you will help others out of this chaos--not in the future, not tomorrow, but now."

    "So, to meditate is to purge the mind of its self-centered activity. And if you have come this far in meditation, you will find there is silence, a total emptiness. The mind is uncontaminated by society; it is no longer subject to any influence, to the pressure of any desire. It is completely alone, and being alone, untouched it is innocent. Therefore there is a possibility for that which is timeless, eternal, to come into being. This whole process is meditation."

    "Love is not different from truth. Love is that state in which the thought process, as time, has completely ceased. Where love is, there is transformation. Without love, revolution has no meaning, for the revolution is merely destruction, decay, a greater and greater ever-mounting mystery. Where there is love, there is revolution, because love is transformation from moment to moment."

    "Creation is something that is most holy, that's the most sacred thing in life, and if you have made a mess of your life, change it. Change it today, not tomorrow. If you are uncertain, find out why and be certain. If your thinking is not straight, think straight, logically. Unless all that is prepared, all that is settled, you can't enter into this world, into the world of creation."

    "Now how am I going to find out what this flame is which we call love - not how to express it to another but what it means in itself? I will first reject what the church, what society, what my parents and friends, what every person and every book has said about it because I want to find out for myself what it is. Here is an enormous problem that involves the whole of mankind, there have been a thousand ways of defining it and I myself am caught in some pattern or other according to what I like or enjoy at the moment - so shouldn't I, in order to understand it, first free myself from my own inclinations and prejudices? I am confused, torn by my own desires, so I say to myself, `First clear up your own confusion. Perhaps you may be able to discover what love is through what it is not."

    "The mind can pursue sensations, desires, but it cannot pursue love. Love must come to the mind. And, when once love is there, it has no division as sensuous and divine: it is love. That is the extraordinary thing about love: it is the only quality that brings a total comprehension of the whole of existence. "

    "The moment you have in your heart this extraordinary thing called love and feel the depth, the delight, the ecstasy of it, you will discover that for you the world is transformed.”

    "Freedom and love go together. Love is not a reaction. If I love you because you love me, that is mere trade, a thing to be bought in the market; it is not love. To love is not to ask anything in return, not even to feel that you are giving something- and it is only such love that can know freedom.”

    "When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind."

    "You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems, and suffer, and understand, for all that is life."~J.Krishnamurti

    For the total development of the human being, solitude as a means of cultivating sensitivity becomes a necessity.
    One has to know what it means to be alone, what it is to meditate, what it is to die;
    and the implications of solitude, of meditation, of death, can be known only by seeking them out.
    These implications cannot be taught, they must be learnt.
    One can indicate, but learning by what is indicated is not the experiencing of solitude or meditation.
    To experience what is solitude and what is meditation, one must be in in a state of inquiry;
    only a mind that is in a state of inquiry is capable of learning.
    But when inquiry is suppressed by previous knowledge,
    or by the authority and experience of another, then learning becomes mere imitation,
    and imitation causes a human being to repeat what is learnt without experiencing it.
