Explosives. Happy Anniversary Ameryka !

Independence Day is one of my least favorite holidays to be around in the USA. I've actually got three or four such holidays; xMas, New Year's Day, and the 4th. Sometimes I'd throw in Thanksgiving, but that's mostly because of the traffic.
My Mother loved to watch the fireworks; mostly for the colors set of by the rockets' red glare and the bombs bursting in air. The original refers to the British bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. I never cared for any of it because it's usually accompanied by noise. I grew up around loud people, so the sounds of fireworks and bombs are not something I would crave.
Many people I know also have dogs or cats as pets. These creatures are often disturbed by the loud, booming noises. Fortunately for me, I am a sound sleeper. I made sure to get a good night's sleep before things got out of hand. What also disturbs me is the number of days (or weeks) before and after the 4th that people let off the firecrackers and other fireworks. What's the point?
Yet another activity that puts the neighborhoods at risk for fire or bodily danger. I stay away and am quite happy with my decision to do so!
