Even without the medicinal benefits it's sounds good to me. As children we had warm milk. I use the additional ingredients in all sorts of things and see no reason why they wouldn't work together. My preference for sweetness would be honey though.

I was in Safeway yesterday, looking for horseradish root to make cocktail sauce for shrimp. They didn't have any, but I noticed they had turmeric root! I get lots of that in my curries.
I have never seen fresh root. I buy my spices from a warehouse that imports directly from country of origin, powdered or seeds. Only problem is you need loads of storage jars because you buy by weight and they are shipped in recyclable bags not suitable for continual opening and closing.
