I haven't been using chopsticks to do this forever, no. And back when I was a teen in the 90s, I couldn't get excited about anime; here mentioned for context (I have not always been this interested in Japanese table manners and restaurant etiquette). But my fiance is Asian. And so, I have an investment in being part of the Asian community in California - with any luck, we'll soon be seen dining among you here at popular and even lesser-known places like Home | Cagami Ramen. Which has motivated me to ponder... Am I properly eating my ramen?? The answer? A resounding, "No, actually you're doing it incorrectly." =-| Okay... Well, here is a good place where you can discuss your fondness of ramen, and your strategy for eating it.
I seldom eat ramen, but it's a worthy consideration; depending on where you order... Here, I don't mean Top Ramen but rather the more traditional soup style. It's a worthwhile endeavor and the many times I've had it, I've seldom been disappointed. If you happen to see it, I recommend a nice vegetable ramen.
UMMMM that's my "cold day" lunch occasionally -- now i do add some things to it ---- but i use BOTH a fork and spoon
I like ramen - without the flavor packet that has too much salt. I add a half-can of tuna after the noodles are hot, stir it thoroughly and add some hot sauce and stir. I also put in some peas and carrots sometimes.
So long as food gets into my mouth, I wouldn't care which delivery system (spoon, fork, chopsticks), is used.
Next to sushi, ramen is one of my favorites. I've been to Japan twice and both times I spent a lot of time gorging myself on ramen and sushi. Been able to use chopsticks since I started taking judo when I was nine so I don't have a problem using them to get my slurp on! Then pick up the bowl and slurp down the broth; that's considered rude and bad table manners here but not in Japan.
I still do it; makes my wife which is the other reason why I do it. First time, she accused me of having bad manners; I accused her of being clueless about eating ramen and since I've eaten it more than she ever will - and in Japan, to boot, go Google "how to eat ramen." And... she can't use chopsticks.
