Guys today is Buy Nothing Day. A day to buy nothing and show the world they don't need to always consume consume consume. www.adbusters.org
yeah, i have achieved it today, however i am a student so most days are buy nothing. i have being wearing my 'buy nothing day' t shirt all day ( i didn't buy it, i made it myself) peacex
CNN showed a clip today of security and cops gang-tackling some guy who apparently unfairly cut into line to buy a laptop. Don't mess with capitalism. They don't call it Black Friday for nothing. .
I just figured outwhat Black Friday was yesterday, when I heard it on the news. Before when I heard them say Black Friady, I thought that sounded like some bad thing...well, I guess it is some bad thing...beacuse they like use it as the first day to start *really* commercializing the holidays.
We should have a name for the day after Christmas when everyone takes their stuff back to the stores to get it exchanged for money. .
just found out that BND in the UK is tommorow not today, so ive decided to celebrate both days, hey i may just do it for the week. may need food eventually peacex
That incident with the security gang tackling the customer was in Orlando, Florida. Seems like they're a little tough down there. Florida is where the police cuffed that little kindergarten girl's hands behind her back when she got upset at school. Good thing it wasn't a little kindergarten girl who cut in line at that store today. .
We walked 5 miles today. It was a beautiful cold day and we spent it outside enjoying the family. We aren't big spenders anyway, so buying nothing today wasn't all that hard to do. Heck I could go a month without purchasing stuff (other than food).
I wouldn't think someone has failed if they bought a beer. I mean buy nothing day is not really meant to be one day a year when you buy nothing after every other day of spend spend spend. It's more about raising awareness and gradually cutting down consumer spending in the long run instead of just only on one day.
Great thread. Next year lets one of us or all of us make sure we mention this at least a day or 2 in advance. I buy NOTHING for Christmas other than maybe a bit more paint and stuff to make cookies. Then I send my family and friends a bit of something I made myself. Its all a bunch of overpriced, cheap plastic crap that you really don't need anyway. Give of yourself, thats the true meaning of the whole gig. Make God smile, after all its supposed to be his son's birthday we are celebrating..for Christ's sake!!
congratulations, but it felt great, now lets all stop buying useless crap all the time, time for us to stop consuming so much and start being happy. peacex
Everything this year is either second hand or handmade. I hope people see the shape the economy is really in instead of a false sense of security under the Bush regime. Oh maybe everyone can remortgage their homes again to help make him look good. Sorry for the rant! They really weren't expecting good numbers for the retail industry this year I heard.
woooh, way to go, we have to free ourselves before we preach, for christmas this year i am just going to make my gifts and 'donate on behalf' for a gift. glad to see there are so many lovely people on this thread who are making a difference peacex
