I just edited this and deleted what i previously asked, i just thought of something and thought it'd be better to just re-make this thread rather than make an entirely knew one. Okay, so does anyone think this will work? 1.) Grind up some weed, make it very fine 2.) Melt some butter in a container in the microwave until it is extremely hot and boiling 3.) put the boiling butter into a thermos 4.) add the weed to the thermos 5.) mix well, close thermos, then leave sitting for a few hours 6.) wait until most of the heat is gone and it is just warm, then strain the butter using a coffee filter 7.) refrigerate butter in container until it hardens Would that work? I don't see any reasons as to why it wouldn't, correct me if i'm wrong! And if this method would work, how much grams of weed to butter should i use?

I just edited and completely changed the thread, for those of you have read this, please re-read it! Thanks
man, just use the double boiler method. it's dead easy and i'm not sure how good your extraction will be using the one you described. i can't stand the taste of weed butter. it's one of those cases where i ate too much and got sick and now find it repulsive. and you can taste it for hours afterward like nothing else you'll ever eat. didn't even get high though so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.
I live at home with parents though, so it has to be something i can do quickly while they're not in the kitchen and something that wont leave a weed smell behind. But yeah, i can't imagine it tasting that great, i made firecrackers once and they tasted like complete shit, hoping this will be better lol Did you just eat the butter straight up? or mix it in with something like making cookies/brownies? I didn't think you'd be able to taste the butter much if mixing it in with brownies or something.
That will work to some extent but it will be far from optimal. The key to extracting thc into butter is low heat for a long time. You'll extract some thc in the short time you have the butter hot enough to do much, but it won't stay hot enough for long enough, even in a thermos. I'd say this method is a waste of weed. You just need to find an hour or two to use the stove and then find a way to get rid of the smell.
yeah definitely not optimal, it is much better to use a heat source not a thermos....... it's going to be a pain in the arse to strain with a coffee filter but it is doable......... for a standard batch of butter it's like 1oz of bud to 4 sticks butter (1 lb.).....i like to make it stronger but that's my preference and yeah you'll be able to taste the butter no matter what you mix/make with it.....a good reason to make hash butter instead of weed butter, WAY better flavor :cheers2:
That is not true. If you do it right you can't taste the difference. Depending on what you make with it....some treats cover the taste better than others.
lol ok, let me re-phrase.......out of the shit tons of different canna butter edibles i've tried, i've tasted it every time...
But a thermos tends to keep things hot for at least an hour, then very warm for another few hours, wouldn't that do the trick? At first when the butter is to the point of boiling, that would extract most of the thc and start the process, then for the next few hours while it's still hot/very warm it will continue to simmer? But i agree that it's not the best method, but i think it still might work quite well? Although it may waste a little bit of weed? I'm thinking of making just a tiny bit though, what would be a good amount of weed? I'm thinking of just using 1/4th of a stick of butter or so, should i use 1 gram of bud? Thinking more is better than less.
i ended up doing both lol i ate like a pound of butter that day and you can definitely definitely taste the weed butter in no matter what you make with it. it's hard to not find it overpowering, especially if you use it in recipes with lots of butter, which is what you should be doing.
Damn, didn't think it'd be that bad I was planning on just putting some of the butter on toast or something like that haha, i may need to re-think that... Maybe if i just put lots of peanut butter on it, it wouldn't be so bad...
I actually enjoy the taste of cannabutter. I suppose it's worth a try, I'm just not sure that a thermos would retain the level of heat needed. For one thing you should definitely decarboxylate the weed before anything, which you can do by popping it in the microwave for 30 seconds or so. This way the bud will be primed for extraction, and make sure you get the butter good and hot. If you have good weed then one gram in a 1/4 stick is enough. I've eaten cannabutter on toast with some jelly and it was delicious.
I once made a batch of brownies with a half ounce of some cheap bud I got... my buddy and I got stoned from smoking, then ate all the brownies, and were super stoned. The next day I felt super dehydrated, like a hangover though.
I'll definatly try decarboxylate it, i've heard of this before but have no clue what it really is/means, what does that do? Wouldn't it loose potency or release some thc in the microwave alone? And that's good, i'll probably just end up making 1/4th stick of butter to test it out, wont be able to do it for a few days though. Another question, i don't think we have butter (we never eat actual butter) so i'd have to go out and buy some, which might seem odd... but we always have margarine, does that work? I'm assuming it doesn't, but i thought i'd ask anyways.
You definitely want to use real butter. Decarboxylation is the process of breaking down THCA into Delta-9 THC. A lot of the THC in bud is actually THCA until it is broken down by heat. At average temperatures the breakdown occurs slowly over a long period of time, which is one of the reasons for curing, and raising the temperature by cooking or microwaving or burning also causes this to occur. Delta-9 THC is the chemical responsible for getting you high, so if you're going to eat weed you have to heat it first so that you have a higher concentration of Delta-9 THC which will be active orally. Using the microwave for a short period of time won't raise the temperature enough to destroy the thc but it will be enough for decarboxylation.
Apart from having firecrackers a couple of times, which were ok but nothing as good as the one time where I have had edibles made with cannabutter. In December of 2010, I came back to New Jersey from uni in Philadelphia and my good friend came back from her uni in Washington D.C. Brought back with her a good amount of christmas themed cookies that she had made in D.C. (christmas trees, snow men, gingerbread men, etc.) and she gave me 3 of the cookies. She told me they were pretty strong and I ate all 3 and honestly have never been so stoned in my life. I loved them! She had used really good bud in them, i cannot remember quantities or anything. I have been thinking of making some edibles with a couple friends recently. Gotta do more research and then get to it!
