Would having dreads effect wearing a motorcycle helmet much? Or would they just require a little more space? Or would they just mush down a bit and not really make a difference.

Im hoping to keep my hair long (and be able to get jobs over summer) right now my hairs about half way down my nose I want to start my dreads around may hopefully it will be long enough then.

You will Go up at least one helmet size when you dread, its a little uncomfortable as your hair is so thick between you and the helmet, I went up from a medium to an extra large when i dreaded

Damn... are your dreads extra thick or something?

I mean.. they should keep it snug and add some padding I would guess...

Could that effect the snugness in an accident?

Having locks isn't going to make a helmet less safe or anything... it will just change the size. As locks mature they get thicker and more solid. Congos will also increase the size you need.

Example: fitted hats. With untangled hair I wore about a 7and1/4 then I had to get a 7and1/2 and now I wear a 7and3/4. If I let things keep on congoing I can expect to have to change sizes again in a year or so.

Well I was just thinking since it wouldnt really be fitting to the shape of your head it would be around the hair too which might give it room to move around.

I wouldnt get congo's intentionally but yeah I was wondering about fitted hats too lol. Thanks

Helmets are supposed to be snug, especially motobike ones. Why don't you go to a shop where they sell helmets and try them on? Yes you will go up a size or two, but you should go try them on, no good asking us mate.

    ^^ That.

My biking helmet still fits, but I bought a new climbing helmet recently - the old one was alright, but I went and tried a bunch of different designs on and found one that really fits well with my dreadies. It looks ridiculous and I wouldn't normally buy it, but since it's not about fashion when it comes to helmet...

I know it should be snug thats why I was more concerned because its for sport bike riding. I wasnt sure if dreads would give it the possibility of moving from right to left if under a lot of force. I will try them on eventually but right now I dont have dreads so its not going to help for that.

but yeah I do need to find out what size I am lol... Does sizing vary at all from brand to brand like some shoes? If so thats no fun because I was going to get my helmet and gear offline.

I can get my large climbing helmet on. It sort of perches on the top though
