*semi-spoiler alert* Did anyone see the recent family guy where brian eats mushrooms and has a bad trip? It was one of the best depictions of trip I've seen in a cartoon or any show. In the beginning it shows trails on the hands, then colors coming, things melting, everyones face distorting and tearing apart. They also tried to tried to capture the intricate fractalizing effects it has, like peter's double chin turned into two little peters dancing. The only thing is when brian starts peaking and has a really bad trip and it seems a little overboard. First off brian cuts off his ear, "to stop world war 2 from happening", and bleeds and falls on the ground. This is really not likely to happen, unless you are really insane. Then brian goes into likes some evil hell type place inside his head, and stewie is the devil, meg is a bug, snakes are coming out of louis eyes and she's saying sexual things as she were a lifeless sex doll, and peters roasting on a flame. Then brian gets thrown into the pits of hell, and he hits the light at the end of the tunnel and wakes up. Basically its a really really really bad trip. Like you would have to be tripping your balls off and totally just resisting the light to have a trip that bad. I don't know why they don't depict a positive trip, that would be more beneficial to people. On a last note, brian came out the trip in a positive manner, seemingly humbled by the experience. And at the exact same time of the trip, the family was having there own dispute and troubles that led to a more humble enlightening experience. Which seems to happen sometimes during trips, everything has its way of coming back to its center. A lot of the time if you have intense life changing experience in a trip, others around you have some kind of experience of their own. My bad if this is kind of long, kind of tipsy Any thoughts on it?
I saw this episode, I hadn't seen new Family Guy's in over a year and I just happened to catch this one. Great animation and some accurate depictions. Ha that part was ridiculous, I came on here and I was like damn looks like Brian got some super potent cyanscens. That part was really trippy with quality animation, I remember they captured the cold feeling mushrooms tend to produce as well in that scene which I thought was cool. I enjoyed that episode.
I thought that as usual it was NOTHING like what an actual mushroom trip is like. However, I don't think one can really put a good characterization of a mushroom trip into a cartoon, and so this was one of the best artistically licensed renditions of a "trip" I've ever seen, the play on metaphors and self was very well done. Still nothing like the real thing and that is important because now people think that is what a mushroom trip is like. Not even a bad one is like that, but how can you show what a bad shroom trip is like? Or maybe they nailed it, and faithfully reproduced Brian's bad mushroom trip.
Kind of unrelated, I haven't seen that episode, but I'll have to look for it cause it sounds awesome, but the best depiction of a trip I've seen in a movie/tv show lately is in knocked up when they take shrooms. It's not a depiction of the things they see but the way they act seems spot on, (ie. "there are too many chairs in this room" the one guy is just moving from chair to chair experiencing each one) that seems like something I would do while tripping.
dude the family guy studios guys know their stuff! I swear. American Dad has an episode about weed, where Roger and Stan are locked in this barn of a grow op that lights on fire. And they're baked out of their minds!! They totally depicted that accurately, they go to some gas station and just stare at cereal boxes and shit. Then there's even a thread about this one where Roger takes like DMT or shrooms, I'm not actually sure, and he goes out of his body into this weird trip, and back again. haha good stuff. I really want to see this episode now!
I think it's impossible to ever show anyone what a bad trip is like, because it is sooo psychological it only makes sense to the person on/in it. But idk man, this episode sounds pretty interesting whether it's accurate or not!
They did a good job off depicting the 1/100th of trip that you can think back to and concrete terms and images come to mind. Unless tvs were somehow in more dimensions than 3, you cannot ever show the full scale of vastness and complexity that a trip has. Im pretty sure Seth Mcfarlan must have done some psychoactives in his day, probably still does. There is one episode of family guy where peter licks a toad (which contains 5meo-dmt) and becomes a real man instead of cartoon. He like looks at his arm and I think he says something like "omg this is way too real". And yea hes defiantly down for some herbage, Haha
