I wonder was there panic and consequently delays as well as incorrect decisions? All the more strange when, it was reported, two pilots were on board.
Quite the mystery indeed, yall. I met a gentleman who was a barge pilot on the ms rvr. He spoke of hitting a bridge. Dont wanna disparage him in any way but is slight possibility was alcohol involved. Id met him in abt 05? & possibly this incident sevral yrs prior. He didnt indicate damage if any. I guess this happens alot. That was the general vibe i got. The recent ark rvr collision was quietly dismissed somewhat similarly. I just wonder howmany of these go unreported?
When he admited this. Were a few others in the room. One of the others was owner of the property we were on or in. & the owner made a joke of the incident. Kinda wish id gotten more details @ the time. Because i didnt see this admittance as any kinda joke. As of abt 20 yrs ago i took a fervent interest in these forms of waterways. Meaning the icw & similar concepts. these as partial method of rainbow trails.
My understanding of the role of pilots is that when they are onboard, one of them assumes the role of captain. They know the harbour and how to navigate through its foibles. That's what they are there for in the first place.
