In reading some of the threads, I've noticed hippie and hipster being used interchangeably. This seems odd to me because, in my mind, they are very different things. What are your opinions on this?
PEace neoteny, there the same thing.well describes the same way. i sometimes need a way to describe all of us. there are many names what does hippie/hippy and hipster have in common? HIP. hip came from 30's harlem talk mening in the know. so soemone whos hip is in the konw! later the tired flower child
Well, when I think hipster I think of the kind of people that more or less listen to the indie bands, most of the time have short black hair -this is for guys and girls-, wear plaids and or mens jackets, and think they have some sort of superiority over everyone else. Now, hippie to me is someone who has a love for the environment and mother nature, respects and tries to love everyone for who they are. They be themselves regardless of what other people think or say. If this means dressing or saying how or what they want to, then so be it. Wow. Looking at hippies and hipsters makes me realize there are some similarities that I didn't see before.
i dont use either of the words, they are just more stereotypes that people give out because they feel better than that group of people. hippies were named by the beatniks, mostly because they were ashamed of the hippies. i think thats how it went im not sure haha
i'd never really heard the term hipster except in this song: "see the hipsters in the park, hair so styled, clothes so dark" that doesn't really sound like hippies..
Thank you. Since I started this thread, I've been trying to put into words what I considered a hipster to be, and have been unable. You pretty much hit it right on the nose, though.
Actually those are kinda like punk flunkies. They've become bored/beyond punk so they think their so sophisticated. We call em bastards
