I was moochin in manchester the other day and happen to notice that a few shops such as Dr Hermans are selling fresh mushrooms ranging from mexican cubensis to thai and even fly agaric. Has any one had any of these from a head shop? and what where their experiances. Their selling at £15 a pack. I would be interested in trying these especially the mexican as these are the variety that Tim Leary started his journey of discovery with.
    Any info or advice
    Thanks

i always buy my mushies from head shops. cant pick mexican mushies fresh from the english countryside.

never had a problem with head shop mushies.. but a little tip is; if you want good visuals, eat a whole pack of em and dontr eat anything for about 5 hours before hand...
get a grow kit if you can.. thats the best idea.
but yes, head shop mushies are fine.. all good and propper.

You tried mushrooms before yes? .. if not get a trip sitter and keep away from the public as they go all weird. Imagine knowing that you can transcend through dimensions and trying to tell them about it .. oh dear .. :p

Yeah I have had Liberty caps quite a few times in the past. How long does the mexican mushie experiance last. An introspective experiance is more what im looking for. I may buy some tommorow or monday.

Generally I find Mexicans to be the calmest, and the others more trippy. The strongest mushrooms by far I've ever had are some rare Amazonian ones, which have only ever been in my local hippy shop once. Pure madness. Just ask Danny! I'd be careful with Fly Agaric's though. They don't contain psyloscybin, and they can be deadly if you eat too much. Not one to mess with....

Mushrooms are magical in various ways!
My parents produce preparations from medicinal mushrooms (shiitake, ganoderma lucidum.....) against cancer, AIDS, high blood pressure, diabetes etc..An article based on research of these preparations was published in the International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms in New York this year. The company that my parents started isn't big, but hundreds if not thousands of people have been cured from cancer for instance!!! They can at least lower the intensity of pain. Medicinal mushrooms have already been officially used for decades in China and Japan (and for centuries in traditional medicine), and lately in the US with hundreds of studies with wonderful results. They basically work by strengthening the immune system (without harming the healthy cells in the process like chemotherapy) - a highly complex organic component called lentinan is the "culprit".

The problem, however, lies in the fact the preparations can't be synthetised (too complex) and stuffed into pills, which is why corporations don't find it profitable. However, don't worry - I'm sure if one of the big shots got cancer he or she would also be provided with treatment consisting of medicinal mushrooms as well.

Interesting stuff. There does seem recently to have been a revival in terms of scientific research into hallucinogens which had been dormant for over three decades and I'm interested too. There's an awful lot to know about these substances and despite the fact that most of my trips havenm't been the best things in the world I'm still confident that these substances, taken with care and in the right environment, could have a big impact on the evolution of our society.

    Hi Merlin

Dr Hermans is on church street off Oldham street at the side of afflex palace, its almost next door to the Factory record shop. There is a good head shop in Preston off friargate nr the university which also sells mushroom and growing kits. Its good that maybe some proper open minded research is being done on natural phychedelics.

bolton beatnick - where/who are you?!

me a boltoner too, a tad older than you.....
socially are you a blue boar/ bolton institiute student union veteran?
    creaking at the joints yet?

    as for the mushies.....
I'm paranoid about taking stuff, so never buy from shops/stalls etc... just pick yer own.

In fact, I think that getting wrapped up in your hiking gear and spending a day up on the moors collecting & gathering is essential for the mental preperation for the trip. Take em home, clean them up & loose the grass/sheepshit etc, prepare them & prepare your space (clean the house, make it cosy & nice, make sure everything works properly, make sure you have plenty tea/coffee etc, make sure you have comfy colthing on) and do it.
Alternatively, the best place for a mushy trip in the bolton area is the china gardens up rivington. Superbly interesting place, all slightly overgrown but with networks of paths, steps up and down the hilside, old pavillions, plenty of grassy areas.... but no people/wardens/police to spoil things, you can really be free up there. Fascinating place to spend a night tripping, but has only ever worked for me with groups of lads, it never seems to work with girls present. Maybe a male bonding thing. The girls always seem to struggle with the wet/cold/uneven floor and steps in the dark, which annoys me as it is as if they revert to a girly stereotype and can't stomp around in the dark at night! I'm sure that wouldn't happen with all girls though!

anyhow, happy tripping, but beware......... its a rollercoaster.... once your on there's no getting off till the end!

    Ahahahahahaha!!!! Too funny...

Thanks for the info Bolton Beatnik. I've been to Rivington before...real nice place. I think the main trouble is that I've only had 1 or 2 group trips, and it's less likely to go bad if you're just in a small group. Hmmm, maybe we should organise aone?

Yeah, kinda really really funny those mushrooms, made everything sparkle and me and sal halucinated a fair bit.. especially when sal saw that when he had a piss, a white spiral of light came out of the plug hole of the urinal as if it was taking him to heaven lol. I just saw half cow, half zebras wandering about...

There was just pure giggling fits for about 75% of it tho...

The guy at my local mushroom retailers tells me they're rushing back to parliment to make those troublesome psychoactive ones illegal! "That's bloody terrible", I said.

Since I'm pretty lazy and obviously only want some shrooms when the mood strikes, I never go into the cities for them. It's always the one in town who do only one! The Mexicans, which I find quite rushy really, well half mad rush like E or something, half heavily smiled recuperation.

Occasionally he'll splash out and get some Truffles (or Philosophers Stones) which are the calmest and trippiest I've ever had. Out of only three like :p

And aye, 75% of the time being laughter seems about right!
