You can't turn your cat into a vegan. Please don't even try. Cats are carnivores by design. From the ASPCA website: "The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) says that while it is possible—though challenging—to keep dogs healthy on a plant-based diet, a vegan diet is NOT appropriate for cats at all." And there are 220 million house cats in the world today. For them to live and be normal and healthy, they have to be fed a diet of meat. There was a similar dilemma with insulin to treat diabetes. Insulin was first harvested from the pancreases of pigs and cows. And people with type 1 diabetes needed insulin to live. The first synthetic insulin was produced in 1978. And Eli Lilly went on to sell it commercially in 1982 under the brand name Humulin. So I don't know what the ethical alternative is to feeding your cat meat if you're a vegan. And even if you're not a cat owner, the 220 million cats in the world will still need to eat. Meat grown in a Petri dish would be the only solution. Maybe people like PETA should start looking into that right away then, and fund it too.
Speaking of moral dilemmas, like cats having to eat meat, and diabetics being treated with insulin from butchered pigs and cows, there is gelatin. Gelatin is used in X-rays as a protective layer to protect the silver halide crystals from damage from radiation during developing. There is really is no practical substitute for gelatin now. You know, I think vegans and PETA should look into that too. Use their resources on solving those problems. Meat grown in a Petri dish for cats, and humans. A substitute for gelatin in x rays. More affordable insulin, so diabetics don't have to use animal insulin now. And then they can do research on the health benefits of a vegan diet, and share that with the public. And enforce and strengthen existing animal welfare laws. And then gradually together, we can all work for the eventual abolition of all meat, and animal experimentation (when it is necessary to treat and cure serious human diseases). Hmm?
