your knowledge of this term is impressive Toker! Was it something they built? Was it used in other music?

The Who didn't build their own instruments, instead they pioneered how they were used.

Who's Next was a ground breaking album, one of the best of all time. It introduced the use of synthesizers with sequencers hooked up to guitars, organs etc.

Pete pioneered the use of the arpeggiator before anyone else, except maybe Tangerine Dream, and it was used all over the album. Probably the ARP 2500 and 2600. My Yamaha keyboard has ARP arpeggiator sequences built in.

I think that Tommy was totally ground breaking.
He spent two years thinking about and working on the piece and it took almost six months of studio work to get it right.

Happy Birthday Pete! Go smash a guitar and have some fun!

@Etherea, 'Tommy' was awesome. Wore out the grooves on my vinyl copy. Also was super happy to see them perform the entirety of 'Tommy' on stage live in 1970. It was also the day I smoked hashish for the first time :)
