Linux Mint Debian Edition 6 (LMDE-6) rocks. My 12 year old Canon scanner works excellent, my HP B&W mini-laser printer does everything I need.

Indeed...anyone running Windoze needs to run this operation regularly to make sure their drive is clean and fully functional. You can avoid the necessity for this, by downloading and install your favorite flavor of Linux Distro
