Figured I'd just post a quick method for making delicious mushroom chocolates for those that struggle with the taste a bit (like many of my friends haha). View attachment 47635 Materials: pretty simple here, I use an icecube tray for the mold, coffee grinder or food processor, scale to weigh desired dosages, microwave, chocolate (I really like using this Hershey Symphony as it melts really well), butter knife for stirring and scraping, and mushrooms of course :2thumbsup: View attachment 47636 First we need to grind up our mushroom material with a coffee grinder (I've chosen to use 10 grams of aborts for this project). View attachment 47637 The coffee grinder leaves us with this nice grey mushroom powder, a food processor or blender would also suffice, if neither is available you can simply cut up the mushrooms into as small of pieces as you can with scissors. View attachment 47638 Next weigh out desired doses per chocolate (my sweet spot is around 2.5-3 grams, any more and it gets kinda tricky to mix), I just use a shotglass on my scale so I can simply dump the powder right into the icecube tray wells like this: View attachment 47639
Next get the necessary amount of chocolate to melt in the microwave (I've found 2 and a half of the blocks on the large Hershey bars to be perfect per 2-3 gram chocolate). I usually melt 2 chocolate worth at a time to minimize mess. Melt on either wax paper, or the outer paper wrapping of the bar, make sure the foil is removed! View attachment 47640 Typically 30-45 seconds is sufficient depending on the microwave, here we have to be careful not to overcook the chocolate, as it singes and becomes crumbly and hard to work with when it cools, so take it slow and do it in 10 second bursts if needed. The chocolate shouldn't melt into a pool but rather keep its shape but be liquidy (as you can see, the lettering on the Hershey chocolate remains legible but is indeed quite melted): View attachment 47641 Now just use your knife to carefully scrape the melted chocolate into the individual wells. Next use the knife to carefully mix/fold the powder evenly into the chocolate, make sure to get to the bottom of the wells and mix thoroughly. After everything is mixed evenly carefully scrape the sides of the well and incorporate as much of the mixture that stuck into the mass: View attachment 47642 Now I place them in the fridge or freezer for 5-15 minutes until the chocolate is the consistency of playdough, this will allow you to use your thumb to compress the chocolate down into the well and smooth out the surface. Now back into the fridge or freezer they go until fully hardened, then simply twist the tray to remove the chocolates just like icecubes: View attachment 47643 Finally...enjoy! Those that are to be stored can be wrapped in plastic or foil and stored in the fridge or freezer (they keep for a long ass time, actually had a friend freeze one for over a year with no loss in potency!) Enjoy guys! :sunny:
Great post man. I love how your doing each one individualy. Every time ive done its been in a double boiler and molds. Its a PITA. I love the idea of using aborts for it. I usually just put them in a jar of honey.
Recently started doing them this way. Ice cube chocolates look good and mask the mushroom taste beautifully. A neat trick for foil wrapping them, take your square of foil and place it directly over one of the ice tray segments. Push a chocolate back into the tray. Wrapping them this way forces the foil right up against the chocolate giving them that store bought look.. Except for looking like ice cubes.. I've also been experimenting with adding lemon essential oil to the chocolate(available in the flavorings section of your favorite supermarket as Lemon essence) because I read somewhere that the oil helps against against the nausea some people experience. 10 trips worth of testing later(~6 different people) and nobody has experienced any nausea at all, including one guy that normally suffers terribly from nausea the entire trip. Just had to register to endorse this method(Interesting forum you guys have here!), anyone who dreads knocking back mushrooms should give it a try.
