Rite Aid asked if I could pass a drug test, but does that mean they will give me one?

I just had an interview at Rite Aid and it seemed to go quite well. The manager asked "If given a drug test, could you pass?" and of course I said yes without hesitation but does that mean I will really take one or do you guys think that was the drug test?

 

I know this probably doesn't help much but, who knows?
I worked for Wrong-Aid as a manager and I can tell you how they did it a few years ago. It was a based on your social security #.

If memory serves each month the manager would get a "key" for who would get tested. Let's say your SS# ended in 55 and the "key" for that time period was #'s between 50-75, then you would get tested. If the key was #'s between 25-50 you would be safe. The numbers that would get tested changed every month or so.

So without knowing what this month's "key" is, there is no way of knowing. But it's not a 100% that you will get tested, it costs way too much $$$ to test every applicant they make an offer to.
Keeping it random keeps people on their toes and saves the company money and it eliminates any accusations of targeting certain people for testing because that part of it is out of the managers hands. If he sends someone for pre-employment testing who's # isn't within the testing range, he better have a good reason for testing. Same if he doesn't send someone for testing, he can get written up or even terminated.


one other note, I live in California and the laws about drug testing protect the person being tested more than the company wanting the test, so some things may be different where you live.

 

Man, I really hope that's not how they do it here. I would much rather get tested upon employment than have to worry about randoms. Did they give any sort of notice? I mean I know they have to send you somewhere, right?

 

No, they don't do random drug tests of current employees at Wrong-aid, costs too much $$$$$.
I'm talking about pre-employment testing.

If they make you a job offer AND your SS# falls within the range for sending NEW applicants for testing, then you will be tested. If your # is not in this month's range, no test.

As I said that way they aren't testing EVERY new applicant, just a random sample based on the SS#.

The only time they will do testing of an employee is if they have a justifiable cause, showing up stoned, theft, etc.

So, if they call you back with a job offer, you may or may not be sent for testing, but at least if they send you, then you know you got the job if you pee clean. :2thumbsup:


they will probably send the men in black after me now for exposing corporate secrets,:hide: they want EVERYONE to think they will be tested if they apply, but they simply can't afford to do that.

 

When I applied for a job at big lots they asked the same question and I said yes I could pass it and they never tested me. They might just be saying that to scare you. Maybe they won't actually do it.

 

Ohhhh ok, that's a lot better hahaha. Hopefully my ss # doesn't fail me, but yeah, I'll find a way to pass the one test if that's the case Haha yeah, that's what I was thinking... that it might be a sort of scare tactic.

 

I would not smoke and drink lots of water well whatever one does to get clean

I just moved here to be with my bf, who's also currently broke and unemployed. I don't know anyone good enough to ask to borrow money, and I can't exactly ask his dad for money for fake piss. I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna get tested anyway, but thanks for the advice.
