So I did some research on the internet and I just wanted to confirm that this procedure won't get someone killed or something so here it is. There isn't much chemistry here just basic stuff so pretty much anyone can follow this guide if it is in fact safe. Please tell me if something isn't correct here or if there are better ways of doing this!!! Thanks in advance. Supplies 1. Gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) - 120mL 2. Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) - 63g 3. Pyrex Measuring cup and Saucepan 4. Ph test strips Procedure 1. Dissolve 63g NaOH in 200mL of Water in a Pyrex mesuring cup 2. Add 120mL GBL to 50mL of Water in a Pyrex sauce pan 3. Heat GBL solution to 100C or until water begins to boil 4. Remove from heat and SLOWLY add NaOH solution at a rate of 1Tsp every three seconds. Stop adding NaOH when the Ph reaches 10.0-10.5 5. Boil the solution and remove it from the heat source, stir for 5 minutes 6. Allow solution to sit for at least 8 hours 7. Ph should be around 8.0-9.5 8. Dilute to desired concentration For Educational purposes ONLY!!!!
