I’ve been a fan of speculative sci-fi since I discovered it somewhere in my late teens. Vonnegut, Heinlein, Huxley, Asimov - when I could stomach his verbiage, Herbert’s lesser novels and short stories,… you get the idea. Anyway, I had a passing thought and figured I’d share and solicit others’ speculations on it.

At some point in our relatively near future, for some unknown societal reason, it becomes an enforceable law that upon reaching the age of majority, everyone must either be paired off for life (in some way that is suitable for them) or remain single for the rest of their life (not necessarily celibate but not allowed to pair off and cohabitate or form a family).

Ok. That’s all the detail I’ve bothered to think about so far. Anyone care to speculate, flesh it out, or just poke around?
