Anyone else familiar with the strange story of the death of Pope John Paul I? He was born Albino Luciani in 1912. And was also known as the smiling Pope, because of his gentle smile. And he also died with a smile on his face, they said. But Pope John Paul I died after only 33 days in office, even though people thought he'd be a long serving pope. Especially since he was in very good health and only in his mid 60's, which was young for a pope. After his body was found, a Vatican doctor pronounced that he had died of a heart attack, although John Paul had no prior history of heart problems. No autopsy would be performed and he was buried almost immediately. He never wanted to be pope. But when the election was forced on him, he said. "May God forgive you for what you have done". But accepted the results of the election, but afterwards told the Archbishop of Manila (who predicted he would elected) "You were a prophet, but my reign will be a short one". I still remember the strange circumstances of his death. They reported on them almost immediately. As I said, Pope John Paul I died after only 33 days in office. One of the shortest reigns in papal history. His housekeeper, Sister Vincenza Taffarel, was the first to find him. She said he was clutching something strange in his hands. Some papers, she said. Cardinal Jean-Marie Villot later forced her to go to a nunnery, it was reported. To keep her quiet, some say. The officials later said, yes. He was clutching something. The book "Imitation of Christ" by Thomas à Kempis. The only problem with that is that book was also later proven to have never even been his living quarters at the time of his death. His burial then was quick, and it was ordered that no autopsy was to be performed. (Some critics today say that that isn't unusual, no autopsy, for a pope.) Some people say he was murdered. But no proof has been established for that, and the Vatican still denies it. Some theories why someone would have wanted him dead are: -The pope had been in was going to expose the bank corruption in the Vatican. -Theologian Abbé Georges de Nantes says yes to that. And he said John Paul I's discovered of a number of Freemason priests in the Vatican and was going to expose them. And some people didn't like the reforms he was proposing, and his devotion to Our Lady of Fátima. -Some people say it had something to do with the fact he was trying reestablish the Tridentine Mass as the traditional mass when he was pope. -Anthony Raimondi (who claims to be a nephew of Lucky Luciano) says he helped his cousin Archbishop Paul Marcinkus kill the pope by putting valium in his tea to knock him out and then poisoned him with cyanide. The reason given was that John Paul had allegedly threatened to expose massive stock fraud run by Vatican insiders. Raimondi says that plans were made to also assassinate John Paul II if he decided to do the same, expose the fraud. -Some conspiracy theorists connect the pope's death with the image of the "bishop dressed in white" said to have been seen by Lucia Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto during the visitations of Our Lady of Fátima in 1917. -A couple of authors have speculated it was the CIA. They say the U.S. government was eager to have a pope who would be more aligned with the foreign policy interests of the United States, and have suggested that the CIA may have been involved in murdering John Paul I. John Paul II took over right away. And he took the same name John Paul. (Which was strange. What was he trying to say or prove by doing that?) John Paul II was almost assassinated too, May 13, 1981. And some say it was for the same reasons as given above.
