It blows my mind that so many "hippies" are Republicans,Trump supporters, and right wingers. The hippies of the sixties were apolitical, but "Sex, drugs, rock n' roll" wasn't a Republican slogan, and all this anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant shit doesn't sound too hip either. The 1% and their blue uniformed defenders used to be called "pigs". I even opened a thread on the subject, "Are Republican Hippies Oxymorons". I disagree. The reality of twenty-first century America is choosing the lesser of evils. If you don't choose, they choose you. But certainly both major parties are fucked. So are the minor ones. Certainly, a party that gave us a choice between Hillary and Bernie could do wrong, but that's humans for you. The reality is the Republicans and Trump are really, really fucked, and are fucking us over majorly.

 

There's a substantial difference between being "anti-immigrant" (meaning you don't want anybody at all coming into the country) and "anti-illegal alien" which means you don't want people sneaking into the country illegally. Illegal being the operative here.

If I wanted to be an extremist I'd suggest that anyone who welcomes people into the country illegally, is anti-American to the very core of their being. At some point fucking the country comes back to bite us all in the ass.

 

These kind of people really exist. They think because they took some acid and own a Grateful Dead CD they are so "woke". I hate that term but they will quote Joe Rogan or Ayn Rand and seriously think they are with the group. So the only groups they have are with other people who smoke weed and watch Fox News. Almost always people born in the 1970's or 80's and the yuppies when some older hippies would say the party was already over.

 

Maybe they were thinking America is a world leader; and, America has had its troops in their country for years, as in El Salvador? Maybe the heard America is the shining city on the hill? Maybe they thought they could become movie stars? I don't have all the answers; but, I do think this new policy of separating kids from their parents is horrible and awful.

Glad you brought this up Okie. I agree with you. I just don't see how the Republican Bible Thumper Control Freaks could be genuine Hippies! It just cuts against the grain! Hippies share. They will share their last meal or last cigarette. Republicans are against sharing. Hippies love life. Republicans like Trump like war and intimidation of other nations.

 

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

Payback ? I think they most likely are coming for a chance at life. If they remain where they are they die. Someone should interview them to find out the reasons? I don't think these central American villagers fully understand the complexity of American politics and the economy. Someone should tell them they might work a lifetime and have nothing to show for it, thanks to Trump and the Republicans who want workers to have no rights or money. Trump supports employment at will laws.

 

It's called Disparate Treatment...a key component of Discrimination.

 

Has any one on this thread hear about any family separations at the Canadian border with the USA? Are any non-Mexican/Hispanic families being put through the wringer in the same way?

 

That was my point as well. But they post facts.

Fact is Trump and his crowd have lied to the American people over 4000 times in 17 months. He called for a total ban on Muslims and then claimed it is not a ban on Muslims. He claimed there was a terror attack on Bowling Green when there wasn't one. He promised during his campaign he wouldn't mess with Social Security and Medicare but he is doing it this year. And oh yes, we'll have great health care … it will be beautiful.. everyone will be covered and on DACA he said the dreamers would be welcome and the would be so much love! And he said we would have clean water... oh yeah it is going to be so beautiful!

 

I like how Republicans have this inside joke about how stupid feelings are because they like facts. Yet their dead leader never gives them facts. He gives them the feeling they want. They feel they are victims of Mexicans. They feel Muslims are a problem. They feel Obama was actuly a Muslim. They feel England lives under the same laws as Saudi Arabia.

No real facts point to any of this being true. The whole thing is sad to me. The weak feelings you hate are actuly the human and Christian compassion most of us have. If America is a Christian country they do not put kids in cells.

Trump is a businessman and in business when your product does not offer a benefit you sell the feeling it gives you. Any marketing executive will tell you that. It's why Toyota talks about their warranty in their ads and a Ferrari just has to show the car.
