i had wanted my tongue pierced for like 2 years, so i figured if i wanted something for that long, it was not on a whim.
Everyone i came across with a tongue piercing over the last 2 years said it didn't hurt. I mean everyone. Not one bad report.
well, i finally went for the gusto last tuesday night with a friend..she had her conch pierced and i got my tongue pierced.
It hurt like crazy to get pierced, and it sent a wicked shooting pain into my ear and down my throat. I thought it would go away.
after four days of agony despite the mouthwashing and "painkillers" (motrin and advil are worthless for pain) i still had a sore ear and throat.
i looked in my throat and my tonsils were covered in white crap.
so i went to the clinic and well! Right on i had strep throat and fluid in my ear.
So on top of the tongue pain, hardly eating, and hardly talking, i was sick.
I don't know if it was just bad timing or what, or if getting my tongue pierced made me sick.
I am still not better after 5 days. My throat and ear hurt worse than my tongue. I am sick of feeling like shiza!!! The pain has not stopped.
Anyone else had this happen or hear of this happening to someone???

ew that sucks to get sick when your tounge is still healing! Hope you feel better soon!
When I first had my tounge pierced I went to this big ol' biker dude on a whim to have it done and after he pierced it I knew he had fucked up because the bottom ball was pertruding outward and hitting on my teeth every time I moved my tounge to talk. So I went back to him like a half hour later and could barely talk because my tounge was so swollen......I told him he fucked up and that he needed to re-do it and he sat there and argued with me about it! It was in front of a bunch of customers too:rolleyes: So he's refusing to re do it or give me back my money saying that *I* am not a piercer and *he* is so I should be quiet since I don't know my shit. Haha...yeah ok. Well my tounge was too damn swollen and he was too damn stupid to keep arguing with him so I just left and went straight to another place (a much nicer more reputable one) and told the guy there what had happened. He took one look at my tounge ring and was like "that guy totally fucked it up! Don't ever go back there, he's a total butcher!" And then he preceded to re-do it the right way. *sigh* So I know this was totally immature and just stupid of me....but because I was so pissed at that biker dude I must have filled out about 100 magazine subscriptions with his name and shop address and checked the "bill me later" box. And they were all funky women's mags and baby mags:p

well it could have been but i dont think so, srept is a type of bacteria so unless that bacteria was on the needle or tounge ring they put in or someone didnt wash there hands then maybe, the ear thing i dont know, again probly a bacteria thing.

I had my tongue pierced at a reputable place in my area. I actually had it done at the local bikefest. I have 21 piercings so far & all of them were done there & we hang there n stuff so we went to visit at the fest. It was totally on a whim. Everyone I knew that had it said it didn't hurt & the clamp is the worst part. Mine definitely hurt & I bleed with every piercing. It swelled for a few days. But I swear she hit a nerve when she pierced mine because those few days the one side didn't hurt at all & the other side trembled for a few days & it was constant twitching & pain. I'm also diabetic & almost passed out afterwards . We all smoked a cigarette like dumb asses & I tried to stand & they threw a chair under me. Then my friend went & got me water ice :).

I'm so happy that this is a forum on here now! I love piercings! I like tattoos also, but don't have any yet.

I doubt that you got sick from it. It probably was just bad timing. That sux, though. Try gargling with hot salt water too, for your throat & the piercing, it should help.

gee that really does suck.. when i got my tongue pierced everything went fine. I had wanted a piercing for a while, and my ear piercings didn't stay in for long because they wouldnt heal so i thought tongue was the next thing. I went to a reputable place too - a place dedicated to piercing and body modifications with a proper clinic-like room/office where the piercings took place. It didn't hurt at all, not even the clamp.. the worst thing was my uncontrollable drooling when the piercer had my tongue.. but they put a bib on me just in case haha. I was pretty stupid and ate curry the night i had it done, and that hurt.. but i healed pretty quickly and have had no problems at all.

one thing i did do was grab a water bottle, emptied out about 1/3, and topped it up with mouthwash. It was really convenient for rinsing my mouth out several times a day - prevented any further possible infections i guess.

there are geuine good piercing experiences out there

when I got mine done, it was on a whim, too. I wanted to have it done for a while, but one day we were at the mall, and I was like, "ah, what the hell..."
I was with a group of my friends and we all went into the first place that we saw. It looked good. It was all marble and jungle-sih. I thought that it looked good. The lady who came up to us to do the percing didn't really ask anything, and just assumed that I was 18 (thank god, cuz I was only 17) . Well, we went into the room, and I ended up puking cuz of the nouth wash (a stupid thing I have) and then she started with the clamp.....that hurt. Then she asked ME to hold it. Well, I'd never had this done, so i was like, "whatever..."
Then the needle.....well, that hurt, too. But when she went to go and screw on the ball on the bottom, she kept DROPPING it! In the meantime, yanking on my tounge! OUCH!
Then, when she was done, she wound up charing me an extra $40 for the barbell. When she quoted up $85, we thought that included the jewlery like most places do. GRRR! So it came to like $150 after everything. GRR!
It was swollen for a few weeks, but everything was fine for about a year.
Then I accedentally swallowed it one day when I was going to yell something, and that was the end. :(
I don't think that I'll ever get it done again. My lip percing was MUCH better! lol

that's insane! $150 for a tongue piercing? Christ, my nips were twenty bucks each, and my nose was like 32 with tax or something. And both at clean, really good places. I woulda backed out when she asked me to hold the clamp. Then again, a tongue piercing just seems too painful for me to even really consider.

Wow, only $20 for each nip. Mine were $45 each. My tongue was $60. My industrial was the most expensive at $85.

Valentine's day sale, heh. I was amused by the concept. They usually piercings on sale for $25, basic jewelry included. Anything fancy (like if I'd gotten a bar instead of rings) costs extra.

just a little update...it's been 9 days now and i am still sore. Not as bad though, and i started eating after hardly eating a thing for a week.

i still have to take painkillers, as well as my antibiotics for my throat and ear. The throat is cleared up but my ear still hurts. On top of it all, i feel a slight toothache, and i know that tooth has to be filled cause i can see the cavity. I hate going to the dentist. If i knew this tongue piercing thing was going to turn into such a nightmare, i wouldn't have done it. *sigh* On a positive note, i like the piercing, i think it's sexy, and i am not going to take it out unless i am in big trouble. I'm not gonna go through all this for nothing.

Hon, if people say that their tongue piercings didn't hurt, I can go half way to believing it, but I have never heard someone say that nipple piercings didn't do anything besides hurt like a bitch!

How the hell did you handle that, if the pain of a tongue piercing keeps you from it?!

I used to consider a nipple piercing, but I saw enough of them on guys to decide that I think they don't look good on guys, generally.

I think I just decided that tongue piercing is one of those things that people make seem a lot easier than they actually are.

I'm on my third one tho...so I'm pretty much in the hang of things now.

My tongue piercing was done at Skin Addiction in Hamilton. Fuck those guys. They had the new guy do it (without telling me, of course) and when he couldn't get the barbell in, they had to RE-PIERCE it! After all that nonsense, it still didn't hurt as bad as my nipple (done by Panama Red in Oxford, who I highly recommend).

  18. When I had my grand mal seizure I bit a single hole through my tongue (I have a single fucked up tooth) I couldn't eat solid foods for a few days, it sucked

yes, of course the nipple piercing hurt. But I don't feel my nipples every day, i'm not constantly aware of them like I am my tongue. I use my tongue every day (eating speaking etc), I don't use my nips every day.

I dunno, just the thought of going through the actual piercing process for my tongue kinda grosses me out. Great for other folks, just not me, heh.

I do think nipple piercings can look really good on guys though.... but just one nip done, that's hot.

i don't tell people that my tonuge pericing didn't hurt, i tell that it felt like a pin prick in comparison to my septum, becuase i got my tongue done right after my septum. so infact it dind't hurt a lot for me, becuase i just got a needle shoved through some hard cartiledge.

i'm sorry that yours is being such a bitch to heal. my friend got hers done and the person swiped a nerve, so maybe you should go to the doctor again if you sore throat doesn't go away. becuase that is what happened to her. i'm not trying to scare you, just looking out for you. :)
