I'm thinking of getting my tongue done as soon as I get the money, but I'm scared to shit of it getting infected. When I see pictures like these http://bodyjewelleryshop.com/gallery/data/522/6DSCN3057-med.JPG I get pretty discouraged. I also here stories of the infection spreading to the brain. How common is all of this? Does it happen enough to actually be something to worry about? Thanks in advance.
Hey I have no idea as to the percentage of the risks involved.. but I have a tonguepiercing for over 6 years now and had no problem at all. Only thing was that I turned out to be a bit allergic for the fluid you have to rinse with to keep it clean the first few weeks or sth.. made it bleed (which it should never do, not even when they pierce).. but I simply changed fluids and it was totally fine. Ask anything you want.. think they look hot on guys btw.. too bad you don't see it too often!
Heheh.. it doesn't hurt at all.. really.. if you call that pain you should try having a period each month.. hehe Only the allergic reaction to the fluid was nasty.. and your tongue gets swollen. Another thing is that you should avoid exchanging bodily fluids for a while.. so no kissing or blowing/eating out.. it brings too many bacteria. I couldn't eat solid food for the first few days, but that was probably due to the allergic reaction so..
You probably won't be able to eat solids for a couple of days so be warned! Happens to most ppl, I lived on soup for a weekend. It heals quickly as long as u keep it clean, you should rinse with salt water, don't use anythin with alcohol in it, your mouth produces enzimes that help heal itself and alcohol based stuff delays the healing time. To get an infection I reckon you'd have to never brush your teeth or somethin, its pretty uncommon. Good luck if you're gettin it done, it shouldn't hurt. Its a very cool piercing!
When i got mine done, the piercer suggested i buy a small water bottle, tip out 1/3 of the water, and top up with alcohol-free mouthwash. It made it really convenient to rinse out my mouth after eating, and after touching the piercing, which helped the healing. My piercing didn't bleed at any stage, and i was eating solid foods the whole time (with a little discomfort). I haven't heard of anyone getting an infection from a tongue piercing, and i know a few people with them (gee, it must be at least a dozen people). If you treat the tongue piercing like any other wound, you'll be fine. So, no eating dirt, licking doorknobs or sticking mysterious objects in your mouth. (it's a tough call)
