Not into looking at magazines for ratings. I bough a cheap Bissell that does scant little. Thinking about getting a Miele. I don't want to throw away good money. Does anyone know hat a really solid brand is? My first one was an Electrolux and I had it for over 30 years !
I have had a Kinchrome one I bought years ago on E-bay for $148 and it is fine. Probably not made by them .
I bought a 'Shark' vacuum cleaner about 3 - 4 years ago. The motor is so powerful it sucked up the carpet pile and, try as I might, I couldn't push against it. My cleaning lady I have call on me once a week is the only one able to work it now.
I got rid of carpets, don't have a vacuum cleaner. I am SOOO much healthier. Carpets are never clean, even with a really good vacuum. There is nothing like a freshly washed tile floor, and they last almost forever - ask the folks in Pompeii!
Me too. There are still times when a vacuum cleaner is useful though. I prefer tung oil on floorboards to varnish. Good lino is pricey.
Have you made sure that there is no blockages anywhere on it? Is it an upright or drum vacuum cleaner? Is it losing vacuum somewhere?
I also should mention I had a run in with a Dyson, which is supposedly the best of the best. It wouldn't suck anything. Not even lint. I tool it apart and found a number of small hidden filters that had become clogged. The dang things is too complicated.
Now I do love wooden floors. Tung oil is the best for them I agree. My parents home growing up had nice wooden floors. We loved sliding around on it in our stocking feet. Last kitchen I had in the states had a lino fake wood floor in the kitchen. Now that was hard to keep clean! All those little fake grooves captured and held dirt all too well.
even though i live in one little tiny room, i've thought about getting one of those robotic ones, because technology is fun to watch. i bought a dust devil a few years ago, because really that's as much as i needed. worked ok until it accidentally sucked up something wet. and that was the end of it. those simple unpowered bissel, not sure what you'd call them, they just have brushes geared off the wheels and you just push them around, for if you've just got a small area, there's really just about nothing to go wrong with them, except of course, the do depend on pushing and emptying them. no bags or canisters either.
I have had a bissell heavy duty for about 12 years and it still works very well even though it has seen better days. While there are vacuums that are just not even worth buying most vacuums do loose suction over time, even the really good ones, because they are not properly maintained. Cleaning out the hose, brush, and filters regularly...not just emptying the canister or bag will keep your vacuum working well for a long time, assuming it ever did in the first place. This is not an endorsement for all bissell vacuums. I have a small one I bought for downstairs since I only have one rug down there as opposed to wall to wall carpets in the bedrooms upstairs. It was one of those stick vacuums...it was horrible. It did pick stuff up but it got so clogged up so fast and you had to wash out the spongy filter to use it again and then let it sit for hours to dry. This one I love This one I hate
I recently purchased this Dirt Devil Lithium Ion Cordless Hand Vacuum so I didn't have to carry my vacuum cleaner outside every time I want to clean out my car. Don't buy it it's a piece of shit, and has very little suction.
