Has anyone ever tried using Salvia extract in the Vaporgenie? It seems to put out a very large cloud of vapor with "regular" herb and since it is controlled by how long you keep the flame over the heat filter, I would think getting a long and big hit on it might work? If not on the first hit, then certainly the second. A regular vaporizer seems like it would have its problems since the amount of vapor is so dependant on precise temperature and the temp capability of the vaporizer (most seem to have lower temperatures that don't come close enough to the 455 degrees needed to vaporize salvia unless they are high end expensive models). The manufacturer claims that all types of herbs are able to be vaporized in the Vaporgenie because the temperature control is in the hands of the user and how long they hold the lighter on the pipe.

like you said, you need to get salvia really hot in order to vaporize it. I mean you can't even use a regular lighter on salvia. It is possible to burn it and not get salvorin. If you got a heat gun you could do it, but you probably won't have any luck with a regular lighter. A torch/butane lighter? maybe. but i still kind of doubt it.

Well there's close to 2500 google videos showing people smoking salvia incorrectly with a bic lighter and getting something out of it. In some cases a fairly strong reaction. I don't think they are all faking it? Some of them geninely seem disconnected with reality. And for that matter the documentary on Salvia on Google video, "Sacred Weeds" with psychologists and a pharmacologist, the technique they use is a bong and a regular (not torch) lighter. It seems to be a prevalent myth that a regular lighter will not work but it definitely does work if the proper smoking technique is used (ie. one LARGE hit and keep the lighter on the herb). I assume that it is more of a guarantee that the plant will have an effect with a torch lighter and personally don't take any chances and use a torch myself (to avoid wasting it). And as a side note, a torch lighter will work with the Vaporgenie, according to the manufacturer.

Torch lighters are needed for burning pure salvinorin on a media like foil or glass where the flame does not make direct contact with the leaf material. A match or even candleflame is hot enough to vaporize salvinorin directly. Getting enough heat to transfer through a medium is where the whole torch thing probably got its start. Bottom line, you can use any sort of flame to torch salvia. More importantly is to keep it at high temp while burning it by holding the flame over it instead of "cherry-hitting".

The only advantages are increased rapidity of the burn of material, making more condensed smoke, and perhaps a better yield from a given amount of material. This shouldn't matter much unless you are using really low potency product.

I hope this helps someone :) Happy trails!
