Bible Study
The intern minister of my Unitarian-Universalist church offered an evening class on the first nine chapters of Genesis. It also included the story of Noah. Why did I go? The intern minister is straight, married eye candy and my eyes were needing some nutrition.
As with many such small learning sessions, there is usually an alpha and/or an idiot. There are those who love to hear themselves speak, love to offer commentary (whether it is germane or not) and are otherwise disruptive of the time and the flow of the process. The young intern minister tried to redirect them with the usual, "Good point but let's continue and we can circle back to that later..." but this was seldom picked up as a hope for behavior modification. Even when alpha was asked to do a reading, he would pause to comment with something that didn't add to the topic or that simply made a statement about the mindset of the time.
I doubt I will return (the intern minister's good looks notwithstanding). The only plus was that the lecture was also a potluck and I got to pawn off some of the grains that I have accumulated over time but have never gotten around to using. Last night's contribution was bowtie macaroni with buckwheat and fried onion.
