My bologna has a first name...

To my friends who have been on a diet, I take off my hat to you for perseverance. I've been on my journey since July of last year and thus far have lost somewhere between 41 and 45 pounds. The numbers fluctuate due to water retention and what have you (and also depending on what time of the day I hit the scale).
I've removed many things from the daily food consumption and high on the list are processed meats. I'm not so strict about cheese and dairy products... just with animal flesh that could find its way between bread slices that are topped with mayo. However, for the longest time, I had been craving 100% beef bologna. I wanted to cut it up and add it to an omelet. I'd see it in the store, look at the price, remind myself that it's overpriced for what it is and then toss it aside. But recently I've changed my tune and bought a packet.
Boy, was that a mistake! I had forgotten how much salt and garlic is in each slice. I had also not fully appreciated that each slice is 90 KCals (so only one slice per day!). It does add some flavor to the omelet, but so do onions and mushrooms. Did I really need this? No. But I'm glad I did it because he craving is gone and the Angst about desiring something and depriving myself of it had become an almost masochistic ritual.
Making food choices is an ongoing event. When I'm on vacation, I stay away from scales and other noticeable rituals. I try to make the portion sizes somewhat normal and I do carry plastic bags for saving part of the meal for later.
All in all... I'm happy with my learning!
