What is the appeal of having cats? They're just some of the worst animals to have as pets, IMO. I would not say I am a cat hater, but I would never want one as a pet. We have a cat here at work, and it's just a pain in the ass. When it wants something, which seems to be constantly, it does this really loud, obnoxious, plaintive meow/cry that really gets on my nerves. When I do finally get sick of the crying and give in to feeding it, the damn thing walks right in front of me as I am walking to the food dish as if it wants me to trip. As far as companions, cats seem to be some of the worst, and couldn't less about humans except when it comes to being fed, let outside, etc.
I think the problem might be that an office environment doesn't allow the cat to have its personality.Cats are people too!
I don't mind old, fat cats without a ton of energy who just want to be left alone. But I can't stand 99% of cats. I have friends who have cats and I avoid going to their place because I dislike their cats so much
Cats are okay. The major pro to me is that if you go out of town you can leave them with a huge bowl of food and water and they'll be fine. Paying to board a dog can get pricey. Kittens are hilarious, that's another pro
I live with a few cats. They are an independent animal and one here has picked my girlhood only. He tolerates me but does not seek attention from me like he does with her. But they do seek attention. Usually a meow or something as they paw you. She really loves them and I like animals so the cats stay. I have my dog who as a pack animal needs me more I guess. Like any animal it's individual personality. Some cats are friendly, some are not. It's kind of convenient to not have to let an animal out to use the bathroom. They use the toilet like us. They are also a predator so I think that is where some of the Independence comes from. Dogs are wolves and therefore predators too but the pack mentality goes a long way. You are either an animal person or not. For those that are we get a lot from having them around us. It's not just we are a food source.
cats are for people who want pets but are too lazy to actually take care of them i mean put out some water and food is basically all you ever have to do and even that is optional ...and now i wait for the crazy cat owners to reply
Well I gather I am crazy... but if you've got an indoor cat, you're gonna have to scoop it's litter box EVERY DAY at the very least. Talk about true love!
You have got a reply from me instead. What you say is true, but they still enjoy human company. Not having to walk then in the pouring rain and being able to leave friends or family to feed them when you are away for a few days without causing them distress is a big advantage. Working long hours, Jane and I would feel that it was cruel to keep a dog and lock him in the house all day. You must tell me what you do with your dog when you are off on one of your long space missions, or do you take him with you. LOL.
I wouldn't call myself a "cat person"--more an "animal person", but I have a cat and have had many in the past, and have loved them all. My cats have all been very affectionate, they follow me around the house, purr when I pet them, sleep on me or at my feet. Genuinely appear to enjoy having me around. My current cat waits at the door for me when I get home, similar to many dogs I have had in the past. Not sure where you get the impression that they couldn't care less about humans. Meliai mentioned a good point, too; cats are much less "needy" than dogs. They do their own thing are largely self-sufficient, which I actually assumed you would appreciate since you value independance.
Yeah I would have pictured PR more as a cat person than a dog person, seems like he would value independence over neediness My mom always told me not to trust a man who doesnt like cats. She said men who liked cats would let me be independent and not try to control me. A gross oversimplification of the opposite sex but i've found it to be somewhat true in my dating life lol
