No list. I'm an intelligent food shopper. I march in that supermarket knowing exactly what i need and want, and what aisles to go. Then walk out like a bad ass 15 mins later with about 50 - 70 dollars worth of groceries.
All the time and for both, grocery and "things to do". They both help me keep on track, because I get distracted easily. And they are quite helpful, if I remember to bring them with me.
Usually not....most of the lists I've made have been for non-practical purposes like: Favourite 100 list of songs or top 10 football players or films etc.
But do you vary your list when you arrive at the shop and notice that another product (particularly raw meat) is better quality or on promotion. I tend to chose the meats first, leaving me able to select the most suitable vegetables and salad items, rather than have to go back and swap them. I wonder if it is something that you do automatically and never even realize it. .
The first thing i do when i arrive is go straight for the potatoes. I eat a lot of potatoes, so i almost always need more. Then i go to the meat section which may determine what i will buy next. What type of beans, or rice will go good with it. Whether i need to get sweet potatoes, plantains, or other side dish. I go by weight when i buy meat. And of course checking the date. As long as it looks fresh. I usually have everything in my mind what i need or want, so my shopping goes by very smoothly.
^that's what I do, start with the meat then its really easy to decide what to buy for sides after that. Then I grab a few snacks and I'm good to go.

I have a basic idea in mind of things that I need, and there are things that I buy every week. So, I usually walk in, and start with produce (whatever is on sale and a few staples), and then grab anything else that I need. Typically, I have been looking up new recipes to try, so I will grab the key ingredients to those recipes, too. From there, I just enjoy novelty. I'll just grab some new products or sale items which seem intriguing, and make up my meals for the week depending on what interesting items I've found.
this is basically what i do too, except i stomp out like a child having a tantrum because it should have only taken me 5 minutes if it weren't for all the idiots who think it's a good idea to block the entire aisle to stare at a loaf of bread for hours at a time. i get worse road rage at the grocery store than i ever do on the road.
i tried without list but i always forget something, so i went back to writing a list ( i re-use the supmarket-receipts for that) ...
