Raw Milk farmer being chased,harrased like criminals...

Wilsjane: I work at a milksheep farm that produces and distributes its own cheese. We pasteurize our milk at our property without any issue.
It may be an investment to get a good cheese tub or milk tank that can pasteurize, but thats the only hurdle (well, you also need a somewhat reliable customer base of course, which is not build up easily. May depend on specifics like location etc.)

Most dairy farmers with cows have consciously decided to focus on the mass consumption industry. Or were kind of forced to because they took over a family business that already invested in that.
Its just the easiest and most practical way to sell all of your product, reliably, on the long term. The industry is raped by complacent and demanding consumers and nasty supermarket policies that cater to their customers because that's where the money is.

The traditional dairy industry with all the local factories and distribution and physical labour intrigues me a lot too. But not much farmers crave that level of intensive labour. Which costs more money too. Most consumers don't want to pay what it costs.
Therefor selling raw milk at their door will always be just an extra for them.

I've never had raw milk despite it being legal here...but I decided to look into it a little anyways. Just like 5 minutes of research lol so don't take what I say as gospel

So I couldn't find the original source material but I did find a pro raw milk site that cited the CDC in saying that roughly 42 people a year go to the hospital from drinking raw milk a year and there are roughly 9 million raw milk drinkers in the US. So 42/90000000. Thats a pretty low risk. Probably about as dangerous as not rinsing your spinach well enough but dont quote me on that.

The major concern in Louis Pasteur's day ws TB which isnt really a concern anymore. The main concern now is contamination with fecal matter. And hopefully modern farming practices largely eliminate this risk .

But I guess my own personal opinion is that it just wouldnt be worth it to me if I did end being one of those lucky 42. The benefits dont outweigh the risks. There are some vitamins in milk but you can get those easily enough from other sources . I'm just not a big milk drinker anyways which is why it wouldn't be worth it to me .I don't think humans are really meant to consume animal milk and it is no great loss to our nutrition if we don't. And no great loss or gain if we consume pasteurized rather than raw milk.
