New "energy saving light bulb" sucking dollars out your pocket while asleep

Most LED bulbs will dissipate that capacitor with an "after-glow" effect, as opposed to a flicker, at least the common "home lighting" LED bulbs... Grow lights and industrial LED bulbs may be designed differently, I donno.

Many compact fluorescent bulbs also have capacitors and do the same "after-glow". The delayed start on a CFL is while this capacitor charges up again. Once the capacitor is drained it can't cause the bulb (either type) to flash unless there is some form of current bypassing the switch to recharge it. A bad switch or poorly designed dimmer could do that but could also burn your house down... I think someone would notice there was a problem when going to turn the switch back on and it was hot to the touch.

In the case of the CFL though, which the OP is showing in his photos, a slightly recharged capacitor would not have the amperage to charge the phosphorus in the bulb enough to cause it to flash.

those cfl are dangerous...i dont even think theyre allowed to sell them here anymore..too many fires

even if they are i know i wont buy them ..too many of them pop on startup,,,switched to led and no problems yet for years ...i even use the led outside -35 they still work no problems

cfl are being phased out, they dont make anymore. the remainder of stocks is all there is left

never had any fire or popping issues with CFLs, after nearly 10 years experience with about a dozen of them

this is the sort of scare story much beloved of the (British) Daily Mail

not saying they're without sin - I'm gradually changing my establishment out to LED

as I said eric , some of them do it, ar least the ones I bought,.some that also look like.that dont do it and.interestingly.it says so on the back "no flashing,". that says it.all
