We may limit the domestic mfg of ammo magazines to four rounds . High -capacity mags already in existence would become extravagantly
valued . Banishment of such items now possessed would require police-state operations . Please avoid the police-state : it's unsafe .

I don't know the first thing about bazookas or whether they're even legal to own. Tannerite has solved every problem I've ever had with things that needed to be blown up.

I seem to recall when 10 Amish girls ages 6 to 13 were shot to death in their one room schoolhouse, in Lancaster, PA in 2006.
The guy tied the girls up and announced he was going to kill them.

I guess their Amish schoolmarm should have been armed.

You said:

“What is going to put a stop to them is the task at hand, and it's not a gun control issue. It's a human behavior issue similar to people getting into a car drunk or high and killing innocent people despite all the laws intended to prevent that.”

It seems to me it’s nothing like drunk driving. Drunk driving is illegal in every way. There are no pro drunk driving advocates the way there are pro gun nuts. There are many advocacy groups working to stop drunk driving. Can you imagine the reaction from the terrorist NRA if anti-gun groups wanted to preach anti gun rhetoric in schools? These morons want to arm teachers. If you’re looking to compare drunk driving and gun control in terms of logic I’m all for treating the too consistently. They’re both a cancer on the nation

I feel like you're ignoring the negative correlation between assault weapon bans and gun related deaths. It's on the chart. It means that in places where there were assault weapons bans in place there were far fewer Gun deaths per 100,000 people. Correlation is not causation. It just means that both things are true = there was a gun ban & there were fewer gun deaths. So much fewer gun deaths that we can say there is a strong correlation.

I'm kind of surprised she wasn't. When you live in the sticks you contend with coyotes, raccoons and the occasional rabid varmint.

But really, this was a substantial statistical outlier and you surely know this. It's around 0.6-sigma at best.

26 dead, 20 injured in massacre at rural Texas church, worst in state's history

But statistically, I think the shootings tend to be an urban and suburban problem. gal_frontpage_100216.jpg - NY Daily News
And your point is?

You just made it. Seriously though, rural folks are not the same as city folks. Rural people use guns for entirely different purposes and killing people with them is way down on their list of priorities. City people on the other hand seem to use guns for a very narrow set of needs, most of them criminal or defending themselves from criminals.

I'm not speaking in absolutes of course, so I don't mean to say that "ALL" city dwelling gun owners are crooks. And I'm not about to suggest that "ALL" rural gun owners are merely dispatching foxes and coyotes before all their rabbits get eaten. But we are for the most part dealing with the two widest extremes of gun users.

So perhaps we should debate somewhere in the middle, beyond all the political clutter. Crime is well below politics and a lot closer to home for most of the victims of crime.

I don't know, but we just had a school shooting near where I live at the Marshall county high school, and there was one back in '97 at Heath high school in Paducah. I'm about as rural as it gets. It seems to be happening everywhere.

Ah, Wayne Lapierre. What a lovable guy! His strident, rigid positions on the issue should disgust mentally normal humans.

Solve the solution at the source. Mandate metal detectors at all pubic schools. Banning certain guns is like banning suvs and large trucks from the roads so school kids can be safe being transported by motorcycle.

I think two things happened:
1) 9/11. When people saw that the Pentagon could be attacked, they thought(wrongly, imo) they could protect themselves.
and
2) People actually thought Obama would take away their guns, and put blacks in government positions that would repress whites.

Are you serious? How is placing metal detectors at the public schools solving it at the source..?? It's a bandaid solution any way I look at it!

I don't know what 0.6 sigma is.
While some Amish do hunt, the Anabaptist (Amish) believe in non resistance, as in the example of Jacob Hochstetler.
Facing an attack by Native Americans, Hochstetler forbade his boys to fire back in defense. Jacob and two sons were subsequently captured, and his wife, son, and daughter scalped.
