It appears many companies are disassociating with the NRA.
BlackRock, Bank of America, United, Delta, First National Bank of Omaha, Enterprise , MetLife, Avis, Symantec, Hertz, Chubb, Wyndham, Best Western, Allied Vans, North American Vans, Starkey Hearing Technologies, TrueCar, SimpliSafe, and LifeLock have all severed ties. In all it's claimed over 22 companies have joined the boycott so far.

6-Sigma is a quality control system and represents around 99.987% depending upon what sort of process is being monitored. 0.6 sigma would be very bad, around 1-5%.

As for the Amish, they and the Quakers had their faith and took comfort in dying for their principles. But have you noticed how skyjackings have gone down dramatically since pilots were armed after 9/11?

Meaningful gun-control begins with banning nuclear weapons . It is then a true publicly-owned issue .

It maybe includes a global banning of nuclear weapons (i agree). But it doesn't have to begin with it.

I suppose it has nothing to do with increased security at airports.

In other words, the removal of weapons and bombs on airplanes.

In addition, people don't have to hijack airplanes to get to Cuba anymore, airlines no longer have a total compliance policy wherein they will agree to any hijacker's request to fly them somewhere, airlines are no longer the glamorous fascination they once were thus attracting hijackers, and there are now behavior profiles of hijackers.
And hijackers realize the passengers will now resist by any means possible.

And remember firearms in the cockpit doesn't stop a crew from hijacking their own plane, such as the episodes of Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman, three Douglas DC-3s, the Panair do Brasil Lockheed L-049/149 Constellation, and probably Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

Also hijackers know planes will be shot down if there is a chance of them being used as a weapon.
And keep in mind a handgun in the cockpit does little to prevent the threat of exploding a bomb on board.

The increased scrutiny at airports is being run by a bunch of incompetent hacks. If not for the backscatter technology we'd certainly have bombs on planes. Still, the guys who hijacked the planes on 9/11, after dry runs, did so with box cutters.

I'm sure they would have been found on a scan, I got the full body massage in Dallas the other day when one of my ankles was flagged with a yellow square. The only thing I can figure is that the sock on the left was a different brand than the one on the right.

Rahman was a perfect example of the lack of proper vetting we see so much these days. And largely because nobody wanted to hurt his feelings and cause an international incident. Seems to me though that the captain of a ship is certainly the one person you should be able to trust with a weapon as well as the safekeeping of the ship.

There is no perfect solution to this issue. Sure I agree that getting a gun is way too easy for criminals and nutcases. But I fail to see how taking them away from the rest of the population can possibly help the matter. Before we start going down that road perhaps actually enforcing the existing gun regulations might be a good place to start. It's the lack of competent enforcement that becomes the enabler in so many crimes.

And just look at the overall incompetence of that group of badged yahoos down in Florida. Their feeble attempts at damage control are even more enraging. The press reaction doesn't surprise me at all, but I have to admit Trump's reaction did. I expected a dodge.

How easily the discussion reverts to "taking them away from the rest of the population", when the issue is putting reasonable restrictions on access to AR15s and similar weapons. Enforcement of existing regulations is always a good idea, but as long as there are loopholes like the "gun show" loophole, that won't work. Of course, law enforcement has to take the issue seriously enough to enforce the law. As you say, "there is no perfect solution to this problem" but progress toward any solution would be welcome.

Peace in the nuclear age has no other beginning , otherwise we are tinkering . And , yes , one democracy may certainly surrender those weapons and
be of incredible positive power rising . Why not ? Have you the programmed logical response ?

What do the children say ? please do it

What is it ? something , anything , or the most essential thing

I see. So what you're saying is if we just give guns to the pilots we can just totally do away with all the other airport security?

It appears to me that the example of trained law reinforcement officers failing to engage a shooter is proof that just arming teachers or putting security guards in schools will not completely solve anything.
Especially when some poor teacher uses her Glock to trade shots with a suicide case welding a AR 15 bump stock 200 round magazine with smoke grenades who has just pulled the fire alarm.

And when there are lots of kids around she can shoot if her aim is bad during the shootout. Gunsmoke in the Schools. I can see a new TV series in the making!

It would prevent people from bringing guns into the school. To me it's a no brainer.

They won't be able to implement an airport security style system at every school though. Some schools might get more than others, or already have more than others. My point is that it won't solve the problem for everyone unless they do it right. Also, can you imagine how early everyone would have to get up to line up and go through security? I don't know how they would do it, and my point is I don't think they will.

School shootings are not even the whole problem. Mass shootings at a concert, gay club, cinema. You don't solve that with metal detectors and an i would imagine endless amount of armed security. The dubious person who wants to do this will just act upon the changes, on which the gun nuts (which is far from everyone who likes and owns guns. Just to be ahead of the next goof who wants to go there again :p) will react with another bandaid solution.

    All it does is beep.

It would prevent someone from bringing a gun to school if they didn't plan to shoot up the school, like if they were just bringing a gun to show off to their friends it would be a good deterrent...but if you're coming into the school with the intention of killing as many people as possible I dont think the beep of a metal detector would stop you .

There would also be a metal detector near every window on the ground floor i guess. Ah well, good for the economy! And all those security guards solve the unemployment problem. Yeah, its actually a win-win solution! :grinning:

All metal detectors would do is prevent the shootings from taking place inside the building.

This is where we lose each other. I don't do this to you, so I don't know why you do it to me. And so often. I won't answer such a post because it's not looking for a discussion, it's an attempt to "defeat" me or "win" using tactics, regardless of what I actually say. It's useless to discuss anything in this manner.

So let's just mark this down as a win if you prefer.

Shaking head. So what you're saying is arming pilots won't help ensure a lesser chance at something bad happening or a teacher doesn't stand a chance against an AR 15 so why bother. That's what your saying right?
