Sorry, I'm not onboard with that. The "they're stupid, so give them what they want" argument is completely illogical. Most of the "sensible" gun control crowd is completely ignorant when it comes to firearms. We should not let the ignorant dictate the conversation here.

I've noticed that as well. I've also noticed they know next to nothing about firearms and the proposals they put forward would not have changed anything.

You're entitled to your opinion, but just because you are responsible with a semi-automatic gun doesn't mean a lot of other people's access shouldn't be limited to it. The argument that its the right of the average american to have access to it does not really fly anymore. It was like that for a long time, and its a big reason what's causing these mass shootings by unstable individuals.

More people, by far, are killed with semi-automatic pistols. Why aren't they in the conversation? Because they don't look scary enough? Our rights, as laid out in our constitution, are for the "average" people as much as anyone.

Maybe they will. Could it be that its more about semi-automatic guns at this moment because they were used in the latest mass shooting?
If laws aren't working for a large amount of a country's citizens they should be subject to change. You may find a certain right for everyone more important than the fact a lot of people are fed up about the easy access to certain guns, but when enough people want change because they don't want to live in fear on a daily basis or feel like a society where the best solution to make their kid feel save is to give them a heavy bulletproof backpack or have schools invest in bulletproof blackboards then there should be change. Democracy and all. Not money.

I think that the armed teachers thing will turn into suicide by teacher.

You are correct, of course. However, the current focus is a prime example of a knee jerk, emotional response that is not in line with the facts.

Well, at the end of the day, I'm glad we are not a democracy here in the United States. The rights of the minority are protected just as much as the rights of the majority.

I'm not so sure. I'm willing to bet money that the vast majority of teachers would not carry, and those that would wouldn't advertise the fact.

That conviction seems for a large part based on wishful thinking.

Maybe that should change too. There's a lot of room for improvement. People should be confronted with the fact that the current state of affairs is partly due to their own passive behavior. I mean a lot don't even vote.

Sig. We've already established the stupidity factor, lets not encourage more guns be targeted. Ya gotta learn to act like they win or they never go away. Let them work on deer rifles first.

Heh, well that's a completely different conversation. Plenty of things should change.

If we go with what you're proposing, they actually are winning.

There is currently no law that restricts schools from hiring armed security guards. Many currently do, for example the one in Florida.

The Gun Free School Zone Act of 1990 already allows individuals to have firearms in schools,

Who of you are relevant to your local community , and especially not ours ? Tomorrow is our special school board meeting .
The vets , our warriors , will present their proposals of awareness about guns . By the way , our students are 10% proficient
in English - 15% in mathematics . Hmm ? As a recent arrival , I wonder if govt authority requires math be instructed in English ?

Who understands diversity ? the artist

I think it would be a much wiser social experiment to just ban all assault weapons and see if that minimizes the causality count in schools (and elsewhere).

They are used in mass shootings like in Las Vegas.
They have no value in hunting.
They have no value in home defense.
They can be easily modified to become automatic.

Ban the production of some weapons/tech ...or confiscate ? Do you ask for a police state to confiscate ?
That's what it will take - a professional military policing action . Drones with bombs . Bombing barns .

How do hippies not understand peace ?
