I would hope american society as a whole. Not the industry or bought politicians. If a majority decides everything should remain as it was then that's the outcome the rest has to live by. Same if a majority makes clear its now time for change. Then its a certain amount of gun fanatics who has to accept the biggest part of their society thinks different on this matter than them.

Apparently your country has more to offer than the place where they came from. It doesn't say anything about their opinion or possible affinity of the gun culture. You may conclude otherwise :p

Unfortunately, that sounds like a fantasy world. Industry and bought politicians run this show.

It sounds like a functioning democracy to me. Examples of a functioning democracy can be found even in your country. There is indeed room for improvement. Living a life in apathy is not an option for many. You should join them.

I simply state that they come here knowing our country has a second Amendment that addresses this culture. Pro or Con good or bad they still come here over other Western societies. So if our society violent or not is what they seek, they also see that it seems to be better than thier other choices.

Ah, but do they have to live unarmed with improved gun control? (Maybe yes, because they wouldn't pass a proper background check :p)
And why is it not an option for them in the first place? Because they're conditioned to believe so? Or because everyone else has guns (even if some of them really shouldn't).

Are you seriously trying to defend Tramp's quest for a lifetime appointment as POTUS?

Because people are getting shot up all the damn time. The fairy tale of peace and love is just that: a fairy tale. World is a dangerous and scary place. I'd rather be able to protect me and mine.

Hmmm. Violent crime in the US has steadily declined for many decades and is in sharp decline over the last 25 years. If you’re that worried that your family is in danger unless you wait by the door with a loaded gun can you move? My city is extremely safe with very low crime

Western world is pretty safe where it comes to getting shot up. Its mainly certain places in the US that look like Mexico or Somalia in terms of gun violence (esp. massacres) :p For a large part because of the fostered gun culture. Its pretty evident really.

Modern sporting rifles are not the problem. They’re falsely labeled assault rifles, when they’re not. A true assault rifle has the capability to shoot automatic, 3 shot bursts, or semi. The AR15s, AKs, etc available to the common citizen here in the US are semi-automatic only. For those that don’t know the difference, full auto is depressing the trigger with continuous fire. Three shot bursts is 3 shots per trigger pull. Semi is one shot per trigger pull. Anything beyond semi-auto is illegal to make or own unless you pay a $200 tax, go through an extensive background check, and then can afford to buy a legal registered machinegun. I think the cheapest start at $8000.

There’s better ways to eliminate mass shootings than ban something. Eliminate no-gun zones. Psychopaths hate a challenge. Allow teachers to carry (they must keep their firearm secured on their person...this is critical). Allow parents to carry in schools. Install metal detectors & man them with a police officer. Make our background checks better. Implement mental health into them.

Background checks don't work. The Houston church shooter failed his background check in Texas, so he went to the next state and legally purchased a gun. Besides, black market and private sellers will always exist--especially the black market. A convicted felon can buy a gun.

So what is meant by improved gun control?

I sure wish we didn't live in a world where we need them for protection; I wish we lived in a world with a fool-proof system that guaranteed with 100% accuracy that guns only ended up in the hands of hunters and skeet shooters. But unlike the rest of people chiming in on this issue, I don't know how to get to that utopia.

It's like the great Scarface said:

"Some might tell me to take a chill, B
But fuck that shit, there's a nigga tryina kill me!"

You oversimplify a lot. You're fortunate to live in a safe, low-crime area. But not everyone does. Shouldn't those people be allowed to defend themselves?

Health care system doesn't work as it should. Should it be done away with? Or be improved?
Traffic regulations are not functioning properly. Remove them? Or improve them?
Background checks have not worked in all cases. Are they useless? Or subject for improvements?

I'm sorry, but talking about this topic with you makes it seem like this thread and discussion is just starting.
If you read this thread you have some idea what it could entail. I cannot reword it better without repeating others. Who have done an excellent job summarizing the options.

Edit: maybe Balbus, MeAgain or Okiefreak can requote it. It seems a bit snowed under in these 40+ pages

Did you know there are over 20,000 gun laws on the books in the USA? You think law #20,001 is really going to be the answer?

It's not working. More of what's not working is not the answer. And, as I've mentioned in other threads, we're doing a disservice to society by addressing the symptom and not the cause. Guns have been part of the very fabric of American culture since day one. But once-a-month mass shootings is a relatively new phenomenon. Something changed. And it wasn't the invention of guns. That's what we should be focused on. It's like going after cars and the auto industry to stop drunk driving deaths instead of looking at the alcohol industry's role.

The nation as a whole is seeing much less crime. What do you need to defend yourself?
