Nor race, nor ethnic background, nor religious identity etc etc.

In short if it discriminates anyone it can't be allowed. I supported the idea that if someone appears to display signs of mental instability, we take their guns away until such time as the courts can adjudicate it.

The liberal response is that facism, how dare we discuss that.

So no matter what someone will have a problem with any approach taken. Probably the reason why after 8 shootings this year nothing has really been accomplished. God forbid we hurt someone's feelings.

Silly statements like this aren't doing your ilk any favors in forwarding any kind of meaningful and effective gun legislation.

I think she was asking solid questions on which can be expanded with the following. Are you a responsible gun owner? Is the glock or ruger you named on most lists of guns most preferable to be banned?
Why are you sounding as if all guns will be banned from all citizens when gun control will be improved?

Also, about your question if americans want to change the laws on guns, do I (and many others) really believe that can be done with all these current laws already existing. Yes, of course. It just has to be wanted by a majority and acted upon that wish. There are many different ways to defend yourself btw. You're being a bit whimsical in your arguments today. It's not about your doubts on gun control, but more about refuting everything by folks who see the reason in it ;)

I agree. Just like the only women should be able to argument.
But at least she is coming from sincere concern about people in general, and not just refuting anything because improved gun control might save lifes at the cost of some turd not being able to hunt hogs with AR15s.

    Yup.
    Nope.
    I'm not.
Are you saying gun laws don't work because people refuse to obey them? As I said, there are 10's of thousands of gun laws in this country that aren't doing squat.
That is the weakest argument one could possibly use in this debate. Not even going to tackle this one.
Thanks for telling me what I really mean. All this time I thought I was capable of forming opinions. Thanks for setting me straight.

    *shakes head*

No. It's clear gun control isn't working. "Improve" it--whatever that means (and I don't know because when I asked you about it you said you weren't going to answer it)--all you want.

Not being able to buy an AR15 in a gun shop doesn't mean you won't be able to buy an AR15.

Some of the same people who acknowledge that the War on Drugs was a failure seem to think the War on Guns will be a success for the same reason the drug war has failed.

We're trying to kill the tree at the branch instead of at the root.

I think they're already doing something. This would be clear if they were all removed.
If they leave room for improvements then that should be strived for to get in place. Most people in this thread acknowledge this is what should happen. You in return have put it like you're not living in a properly functioning democracy so it can't be done. And you implied people shouldn't try, because after all you need a gun to defend yourself. But it is not even wanted by a meaningful minority (let alone a majority you have to be concerned about) of people arguing for better gun control to ban these guns. Let alone from reasonable responsible gun owners. So there your refuting is kind of moot too.

It was not an argument for anything. Just a fact worthy to point out.

Not really. What i said is that a list of possible options has already been made and I couldn't said it better than that (certainly not from the top of my head). I asked for it to be requoted by one of the compilers. As they can find it easier in this thread than you or me.

Maybe for a professional criminal. But it will make it real difficult for a school going kid with issues. How many school shootings have been executed by professional criminals? And how many by kids who went to school there? Not worth trying to restrict options for such a kid? Why not, because you need a glock? :p

No, I didn't. No gun I have ever fired or owned would be in consideration for a ban, unless we're talking a total 100% gun ban. Which we're not. Just like pro-gun people are not talking about 100% free-for-all turning this place into the Wild West. Both sides of the aisle in this argument are in the middle.

I don't think stores should sell assault weapons. I don't think the average Joe needs an AR or an AK or anything like that. I'd love to see those vanish. But I live in a place called reality.

I implied we shouldn't try for two reasons. One, we have thousands of gun laws in this country and mass shootings are not only continuing, they're increasing. Gun laws are not working. Two, by focusing on guns, we're ignoring the true cause of what is poisoning our society. I'm making the same points over and over here (I guess we all are at this point) but despite the fact that gun ownership is older than the US itself, mass shootings are a new trend. Something is wrong here. But I don't see gun control addressing the true issue. It avoids it. And that's irresponsible.

People want guns because they like them. The rest is BS rationalization. There is an undeniable statistical link between access (legal and not) to guns and the use of guns. More guns does equal more use of guns. The US has 95% of guns deaths in children in the world - more guns - ie arming teachers - will not make anything better besides gun sales and GOP campaign donations.

Another thing that doesn’t help is the GOP has been unwilling to open the floor for discussion

Improved gun control is part of the solution. A big part. Such a kid should never had legal access to that kind of gun, and he couldn't get it illegally. He got it because your laws make it too easy. You seem in denial about that.
Also, when people say look at other western countries they are rarely saying the US should become exactly like that. But looking objectively at the bigger picture also makes it undeniably clear that gun control can and should be improved in your country.
I'll dig up the list of options already posted in this thread tomorrow.

Trump walked that back after the NRA told him too and the GOP has refused to allow debate on gun reform

Reagan wanted gun reform after he was shot while surrounded by armed guards. And that was 40 years ago. Armed personnel in a school is not gun control that’s more guns. Yes most Americans favor gun control but it won’t be voted on because the nra bought the gop
