Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Rick Scott has signed a bill narrowly passed by Florida's House and Senate, the Washington Post reports. It falls short of what he wanted and what survivors of the massacre demanded; both teachers' unions and the NRA are opposed. But the families of some of the 17 students and staffers who died signed a letter urging Scott to "quickly sign this historic legislation into law," noting "today's vote is just the beginning of our journey." The measure raises the minimum age to buy rifles from 18 to 21, extends a three-day waiting period for handgun purchases to include long guns, and bans bump stocks. As for schools, it creates a program enabling certain school staffers to carry concealed handguns, creates new mental health programs for schools, and sets up an anonymous tip line for threats to be reported. "I think this is the beginning," Scott said after signing the bill.

But but but...hand guns kill 8 times as many people as rifles

    Source FBI again

Am i still scraping the bottom of the barrel?

I also love how you added in there that you have no "current" problems with hand guns.

This is why we cant trust gun grabbers

What a bunch of sloppy messy legislation

But look now, school staff will be carrying guns.

    This is just more guns

Its basically like we blow up these events as political spectacles and now Florida has made a law that just kind of sort of addresses both sides of the debate.

I think the anti gun portion of the law wont accomplish anything good

    Arming teachers might be good

Kennesaw Georgia has a law that every head of household must maintain a firearm. Super low crime rate there. I used to live just 10 minutes south of there.

Its considered a part of metro Atlanta and its historically mostly white. There is a huge University there now. 30 something thousand students i think. Its in the top 50 in the US in size

Indeed it is, but broad generalizations about gun owners are also very common. The root of the problem isn't the machine, so I find all the concentration on guns, while totally overlooking the fact that we have so many mentally unstable freaks, is just as trite as what I posted. Look how many times not only the local cops, but the FBI of all freaking law enforcement entities literally swept this loser in Florida under the rug.

I admit I don't care much for cops or the other assorted government spooks since I have seen how easily they can be provoked into the "I'm the Law" kind of supremacy mode. But to see them drop the ball on this nut in Florida the way they have, circling the wagons, stonewalling video releases and generally acting like it's not their fault when it is absolutely their fault (to the tune of 39+ reports) make me rather outraged. And I'm puzzled by how many people would prefer to see the rest of us disarmed since it would play perfectly into the hands of the government.

    Good to know.

Watching the news it's amazing to me how totally freakin STOOPID (yes, with 2 Os) so many reporters are even with a team of fact checkers behind them supposedly doing the legwork. I'm hearing them report on imaginary gun features and imaginary "loopholes" instead of doing real investigative reporting. They play to the "feelings" of their perceived audience instead of simply presenting the hard truth.

But then, everything we see that comes across a screen is a work of art. Little of it can be trusted. We're being led by the nose down a dark path.

I'm not bothered by the deputy. They ain't a swat team, he's looking after his men. What's worth more, kids life, police life. Well I already know the answer for you lot, it'll be the kids cause ya know, police are bad mmkay, but if had to lead a police force, and their lives were on me, I'd have probably made the same decision.

My grandfathers were never decorated in such a manor because they went in guns blazing, they were decorated for saving their teams lives. Under direct fire from the enemy, pulling men from burning tanks. Nobody remembers who's shell blew who's tank up, but they all remember who ran out in a fire fight and dragged men back to safety.

I feel at that point, he knows his men personally, their emotions, they're a part of his life. There's a head fuck right there, do you save the guy on the left or the guy on the right? The one your personally attached to or the one you don't know?

I don't think anyone really has a right to demean him over that. Lives were gonna be lost, and none of his men were. Isn't that what they teach in the forces?

This is how I see it.

Lets look at Stephen Willeford. The man who shot the perpetrator of the Sutherland Springs Texas church shooting that left 26 dead in November 2017.

Willeford was in his house and could hear the gunshots going off at the church a block away. He grabbed his gun and left his house.

He didn't even stop to put his shoes on before he went out.

When he was asked why he didnt put his shoes on, he replied that every time he heard a shot go off, he connected that in his head to another life gone, so it wasnt worth it to put his shoes on. He just left putting himself in danger with the intention of stopping the shooter because lives were being lost.

Those deputies who stood outside while shots were firing off in the school are irredeemable. Police officer is a position that is supposed to be respected, and they did not earn their stripes.

This interview by the way where I learned Willefords story was from Steven Crowder.

I’ll agree to gun control, and hand over all my guns through a buyback program. But if and only if these pious celebrities and political elite who gripe about gun control, also get rid of their armed security and disarm themselves too.

I'm pretty sure they are a current problem in Chicago. But if they don't choose to look there, then it doesn't exist.

If you need 30 rounds and a laser sight to kill something, you're gayer than I am

First off, 60% of mass shootings are done with pistols. The deadliest school shooting (which 32 died) was done with pistols and ten round magazines. Second, the rate of fire of the civilian AR15 is purely dependant on how fast the shooter can pull the trigger. Any semi automatic or double action firearm can be shot as fast as ypu can with an AR. Thirdly, there are numerous handguns that have the ability of holding 15 rounds and sometimes more. Also as mentioned before, putting a limit on capacity have little to no effect on how many are killed. I haven't confirmed it myself but I keep hearing that the Parkland shooter only had ten round magazines also.

No more cheaper or lethal as any major brand handgun. And actually if ypu want to talk about lethality, the good ol fashioned shotgun is the most lethal.

An army helmet is only rated to stop 9mm handgun rounds reliably. Meaning any bigger pistol rounds can penetrate.

Most of these attributes are irrelevant in a standard active shooter setting where your targets are close. Also most calibers, including pistol calibers, have the ability to penetrate walls and kill someone on the other side. In fact pistol calibers penetrate more walls than the .223/5.56 commonly used in the AR15.

We should ban Jeep Wranglers and Hummer H1s because of how similar they look to military vehicles. Again, the rate of fire is purely dependant on the shooter.

Taking all things into consideration, Its pretty clear at this point

That some people just want ARs to be illegal because they are icky and they dont like the people that own them

The NRA is suing Florida. Bumping the age from 18 to 21 infringes on your birth right to own a gun.

Hey they can draft you into military service at 18.

Looks like my $30 NRA membership was well spent. Go NRA! Go America!

This is what America is about.

Yeah, yeah. And the 2nd amendment was given by god according to the NRA. US lawmakers had nothing to do with that shit.

As far as I know conscription has not been reinstated.

As I asked before, is there a record of a handgun killing 58 and injuring 851 in 10 minutes at 460 yards?

Yes, currently the benefits of handguns, not on an assault weapons list, would appear to out weight the negatives. But that could be looked into and changed. You see I'm not dogmatic like some. I like to look at facts and adjust my opinions accordingly. There may come a time when I can see the advantages of everyone in the world owning an AR 15...just show me the facts supporting that and I may change my mind.
But it appears you are saying you will never change your opinions about guns no matter what.

I agree broad generalizations are common.
The root of the problem isn't the "machine", the gun. Sure, I agree. A gun is an inanimate object. But as we can't seem to control the human factor that chooses this machine for very devastating destruction, what's wrong with removing the machine from the equation?
It isn't like these "machines" are needed for anything. Nothing changes if every assault weapon in civilian hands were to disappear tomorrow except their availability for mass shootings and the the loss of the fun of blowing up pumpkins at an extremely fast rate.

First you are trying to confine mass shootings to school shootings.
Second, I agree, pistols should have much tighter regulation, as you seem to be arguing for. And ammunition should also be tightly regulated.
A shotgun may be more lethal in certain situations. Depending on the shotgun, most don't have the rate of fire or range.
Again, with the helmet you are neglecting range.
Most pistols don't have the muzzle velocity of an AR 15.

Why do you bring vehicles into your argument?
