Yes and I also understand how counterproductive it is for a union to force a company to pay a person $15 an hour to push a broom. And if they don't, demand that all of it's union workers strike until that broom pusher gets that $15. Then demand lifelong healthcare. Etc. Then defend a union employee from being fired when they are clearly acting in anti productive manner. If he/she is drunk at work, they are fired.... not defended by the Union. In a free market, you either will or will not have employees based on how you pay them and treat them. If they don't like either, they go to work somewhere else. If I can't keep employees because of my pay or work encironment policy, I change my policy until I can keep them. That works pretty well for both sides
I can tell you why one would be opposed...because it has been tried before and it was a giant waste of money. And because food stamp abuse isnt as common as you want to think it is. Thousands of dollars wasted in several states and almost every state that has tried it had a drug use rate of less than 1%. And you have to keep in mind that not everyone who tests positive for drugs is blowing their money on drugs, so of those less than 1% an even smaller percentage is actually abusing the system. And of course you also have to consider that drug tests target cannabis users, and with cannabis legal for recreational or medical use in so many states you're essentially going to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars for something that would amount to a legal minefield. As far as the community service requirement, a larger portion of people in food stamps than you want to think actually have jobs and work already so I think it goes without saying they should be exempt
15 an hour to push a broom doesn't bother me--what bothers me is the multi millions of dollars CEOs get even when they drive the company down the tubes. It might come down to the disparity between workers and the drones that do no work--the management.I worked in the Ford plant in Milpitas on Mustangs when they first came out and I saw the cheating that took place with line speed and the constant drive to replace jobs. They have gotten that done by the looks of the machines that now do a huge % of the work.
1) Trump and Pence don't want to revamp. They want to stop government services that I mentioned, even consumer protection and environmental protections. 2) As he was bombing Syria, Trump signed an order to kick millions off food stamps, public housing, and Medicaid. I always said the Republicans will kick poor old and disabled people out to freeze and die on the sidewalks of America. Now it is a reality.
Yep. If you think flipping a burger or pushing a broom is worth $15/hr., then watch burger flipping and broom pushing robots come into existence.
You're basically taking up for corporations who take advantage of workers by keeping wages low and profits high There is no reason why large corporations cant keep up with inflation and pay their workers accordingly. It is extremely difficult to live on $15 an hour anywhere in the US. Wages should keep up with inflation .Yes, even for low skilled workers You're also essentially showing support for a system in which government has to subsidize people who are employed because they cant afford food. You're cool with corporate welfare? But not cool with food stamps? I dont follow.
I'd like to see the actual people that got affected. Not the thoeretical ones. We have statistics used here saying it's a mere 1% that are on drugs or etc. Now we have another saying they are kicking millions off. So I doubt very seriously we are going broke supporting 1%. Nor do I believe that millions that aren't abusing the system are being kicked off. Yes there are working poor that I'd want exempted. I doubt they are the ones being targeted. I'll wait to see the actual examples, not the theoretical left ones.
Sure there is. If we can't be competitive with the world's workforce, there won't be jobs here. Just look at the history of say our Auto industry. Perfect example of getting crushed by those that make them cheaper. Boeing was the only option once they put the other domestic plane companies out of business or bought them out. Then along came Airbus. Suddenly Boeing has to cut cost since the new player does it cheaper and gets contracts in the same market. If there is no company, there is no high paid leaders of that corporation. If you don't like what your CEO makes, don't work for them. Better yet try and start and run a company yourself. See how easy that is. I think it's crazy what people pay for Starbucks coffee. Certainly makes that CEO rich. But nobody forces me to drink that coffee. I would have never believed how they could jack up coffee. But it is what it is. If you don't want to live on $8/hr., go to school, learn a skill that pays more. Instead of demanding you get paid more for pushing keys with pictures of food items on them. Watch a new robot pop up that can compose a Big Mac order without you.
Hate to tell you,but some of those bots are gettin' good enough to put educated middle class workers out of a job. When that happens, all the Republican talking points this side of Wall Street won't save you from the deluge.
You need to site specifics, not make general claims for which you have provided no sources. Who's getting $15.00 an hour to push a broom? What does the job require exactly, what are prevailing wages, cost of living, etc.? Where did a union strike for this $15.00 an hour and what union? What union is demanding lifelong healthcare? What union has defended an anti productive employee? What was his name? What union, what company did he or she work for? Where is this free market you speak of? Have you ever read up on the history of unions?
Not telling me anything I don't know. It's everyone's responsibility to take care of themselves. Stay ahead if being eliminated.
The UAW made it part of the demands on the automakers. Check the wages of broom pusher or a simple laborer for UAW for example. It's as specific as the claims made about how the corporations are fucking over employees because they are a Right to Work state. John Hawkins - 5 Reasons Unions Are Bad For America There is a reason the foreign car makers come here and open non union plants. USA: Auto workers' union seeks to organise foreign car makers' plants, urges adoption of "fair union elections" principles | Business & Human Rights Resource Centre And here are some examples of Union that protect fuck ups. Are unions a license to be lazy? Unions Defend the Worst of the Worst | National Review I can provide several more links. If you don't feel this is enough. I'm sure you can provide links of how workers are getting fucked over by non union companies.
Are you referring to what I said? You could have just asked me for a link What 7 states discovered after spending more than $1 million drug testing welfare recipients
Various tactics have been used by past administrations to try to cut the welfare and SNAP (food stamps) budget such as drug testing. The Reagan administration considered declaring ketsup to be a serving of vegetables to cut the school lunch program. Trump is going through the same motions, such as his idea of shipping boxes of processed food to people instead of using SNAP. A video of Trump's next proposed eligibility test for welfare and SNAP.
Your John Hawkins link is full of baloney. To cite just one source, Bob Lutz Executive Vice President of Ford, President and Vice Chairman of Chrysler, and Vice Chairman of General Motors; when CAFE came into being the U.S. was making large gas guzzling cars (more profit) while the Japanese were making small efficient vehicles. We had to redesign and retool our entire product line, the Japanese didn't. The Japanese had a favorable exchange rate $3,000 to $4,000 per car. Management was focused on profit, not product. The UAW was slow to accept the need to change. The media bias toward foreign cars. So not just union problems a whole list of problems. Unions are ruining schools? More B.S. Schools are underfunded. There is a process for firing teachers, in fact teachers are held to a higher standard than most jobs in the U.S. Merit pay is stupid. There is no way to manage a merit pay system in public schools. None. Private schools do not provide a better education across the board and when they do there are many factors as to why, such as private schools select their students, public schools don't. Pay as little as possible to government workers, give them no benefits, and make sure they are over worked? An excellent way to get the best people in our government. Unions are undemocratic? That whole paragraph would take days to unravel as it's filled with drivel. The purpose of unions is to subvert Democracy????? Come on. Anyway, I'm not even going to finish this one.
Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controllers "Union" of professional experienced people with a genuine grievance and installed unprofessional non-union people. The Republicans allowed all the packing houses to hire undocumented Mexicans so the employers did not have to pay them a full wage, and avoid FICA taxes and worker compensation insurance. Nixon and The Republicans destroyed the Teamster Union.
