    Ask and Embla

While walking along the sea shore the sons of Bor found two trees, and from them they created a man and a woman.
Odin gave the man and the woman spirit and life. Vili gave them understanding and the power of movement. Vé gave them clothing and names. The man was named Ask [Ash] and the woman Embla [Elm]. From Ask and Embla have sprung the races of men who lived in Midgard.

And you know that because the church said so afterwards. It takes a great understanding of things to accept evolution and the big bang. It is far simpler to just believe. Apparently God did not know about dinosaurs or the real age of the earth. Did not mention all those animals who no longer exist and who left fossil remains behind. God did not think to tell the bible writers about the world around them. Apparently all the animals embarked off of an ark and swam to populate the different continents too. Aside from the physical impossibility to fit two of each living thing into an ark the size given by the bible, along with food for all of them, with some being meat eaters and some requiring grass and leaves from different plants. Of course a God can do anything except alleviate the suffering of a single child or stop evil. People use the excuse of free will to explain why God does not interfere in human affairs and then go ahead and pray to God asking him to interfere in their lives. When two football teams pray to God and one thanks him for winning, does that mean he favors one team over the other?

Believe what you will since religion keeps people in line, gives them hope and makes them less afraid of death. However, humans who supposedly believe in a wonderful afterlife that no one has returned from, spend a lot of time and money living as long as they can. If I thought there was an afterlife, I would not go for medical tests or exercise and eat well. Death could not come fast enough so that I could get to Paradise.

There is no talking to people who believe things based on faith. Isn't it funny how God no longer appeared once men became educated and understood the world around them? What of the children who die horribly in fires? What kind of God needs us to suffer like that and then demand that we worship him without giving us an ounce of proof that he exists and who cannot stop anyone from killing people? You can bend your knee to a God who treats his creations like he does but I prefer to not worship a supposedly God who needs us to suffer for him. Why would an all powerful being need humans to suffer?

Then there is the issue of people not believing we came from a single cell organism or evolved from apes even though our DNA is 98-99% the same, but then again most do not understand about genes and DNA since it does not fit into their belief system. Why do people who believer that there is a God and always was cannot believe in the Big Bang and evolution? I find it very difficult to believe in someone who always existed and created a huge universe that we can prove is expanding, only to use one planet to create man.

In the end, you cannot prove or disprove God's existence nor can you disprove that we were or were not made by Big Foot either. Since religion is based on belief generated from a time when men were not as knowledgeable as a 10 year old is today, why can't religion co-exist with evolution and scientific beliefs. My cousin believes in the bible and also believes that scientist and our governments conspire to make us believe in dinosaurs and carbon dating. It is easy to explain away anything that goes against one's religion by saying it is not true or God works in mysterious ways.

BTW, a person who calls non believers stupid and presents no concrete proof, is not a good child of God. I am an Atheist and all of my friends are devote Catholics. You will never catch me calling a religious person stupid for their beliefs because despite not believing in God, I am a good person and do not stoop to ad hominem name calling. Look it up.

Hmmm, interesting and relatively valid if you only understand the most rudimentary and juvenile conception of the Biblical record and make a lot of assumptions.

therefore, since we have this ministry through the mercy that was shown us, we do not give up but we have renounced the shameful underhanded things ,not walking with cunning or adulterating the word of God but making the truth manifest you recommend ourselves to every human conscience in the sight of God. if in fact the good news we declares is veiledamong, it is veiled to those who are perishing. among whom the God of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers so that the illumination of the Glorious good news about the Christ who is the image of God might not shine through

God also specifically states that he doesn't want to worshipped in large groups but rather be worshipped by the individual. Says so in the Bible somewhere.

So what did Christians go and do? They created Mass, going directly against what god said.

Bottom line morale of the story is, it still doesn't matter what's written in the Bible or wven what god says, we'll just make up what works for us anyway. :)

I can see some of the reasoning for both Creationism and Evolution.

if the title of this thread replaced the word "god" with the phrase "universal wonder of strangeness", they might be saying something.
(the terms logic, consideration or honesty could each make a true statement replacing it as well. or for that matter, how about imagination?)

what is stupid is imagining that anything that could be called a god, would owe anything to what anything human might want to think they know about it.
(or that anything besides ignorance exists without honesty, anything besides tyranny without consideration, or even confidence in the continuation of existence without logic.)

i believe a billion gods are exactly as likely as zero or one, but not a single one of whatever might exist of them, owe a damd thing to the christian bible, or anything else humans pull out of their ass.
there may be plenty of hints something god-like exists. what is missing is anything to link it or them, as the case might be, to any one belief, book, or even all of them together.

is it logical to call someone stupid for refusing to hate logic?
maybe, just maybe, what is stupid, is to call someone stupid, because of your own failure to understand their perspective or beliefs that are not your own.
