I had my squirrel just ready to eat out my hand, when spooked by a car going up the alley..

When my grandson was a pre-schooler, he was totally into pirates. He'd just been on a beach vacation and had taken a cruise on a "pirate ship"; yada, yada, yada...Pirate, pirate, pirate!!!

He'd been home a few days when we were out in the yard and he saw a Cardinal on the birdbath.

He whispered, loudly, to my husband: "Pop Pop! Parrot! Right behind you!!!".

It was adorable...but probably one of those things you had to be there for.

He honestly was so excited because he really did think that Cardinal was a Pirate's Parrot.

Feed them mince balls. :D every day. They'll learn that you will provide for them, come baby bird season, they'll see you as a provider for their babies in terms of food.

Well that's how my dad got to befriend a family of Magpies, but not the small European magpies, the big nasty Aussie ones, which I associate a bit with crows.

Hubby's granny use to send the older boys out to climb a tree and steal a baby crow out of the nest for her.

She always had a crow, so I'm told. It came to her out in the yard and perched on her shoulder. She'd take it indoors but it didn't have to stay. It was free but it came to see her every day.

One crow she had for a long time passed away so the story is that she sent the boys out and they stole a baby to replace that one.

She was Native American, I believe.

She lived in a cabin without electricity or running water until she absolutely couldn't anymore and then she went to live with hubby and his parents.

I wish I'd met her but she passed before I met him. Even his parents passed before I met him.

Yes, she does. She taught my husband so many things and she lived to be 100 years old.

Hubby's granny would take him out in the woods to collet "fat wood". He said she had a knack for finding it.

She'd keep the little pieces to use as a torch for going to the outhouse at night, instead of using a flashlight.

Can you collect him in a box and care for him until he's healed up?

Put a big bucket out for him...on it's side, so he can shelter in it...or boards like the things that fighting cocks shelter in...just something.

That looks like a concentration camp for chickens lol. It that what free range farms look like? :) much better than a cage, and I assume the chickens know which tent is theirs too. That's pretty cool.

Whenever we see something like that, on a smaller scale, we always think "illegal cock fighting".
