"Miller, a former Senate aide who has had a leading role in the administration's immigration policies, told colleagues he had been insulted after picking up $80 in sushi from a restaurant near his downtown apartment.

Miller reportedly said that a bartender followed him onto the street, before shouting his name.

Miller said the bartender then raised both middle fingers toward him and cursed at him. The Post reports that Miller told co-workers that he became so outraged that he threw the sushi away.

Miller is far from the only Trump administration official to face such hostility in public.

The Post story relayed situations at book shops, grocery stores and other public places where people such as former White House strategist Stephen Bannon, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and Vice President Pence have been confronted.

Shortly after Conway arrived in Washington to work in Trump's White House, a man shouted at her, “You ought to be ashamed of yourself! Go look in the mirror!”

"I wasn’t expecting people to try to undo the election and drive us out of town,” Conway told the newspaper.

The Post also notes that a stranger shouted "Better be better" at Miller as he walked through the city a few months ago. His face also appeared on "Wanted" posters that were given out to his neighbors."

 

That's taking the meaning of "keep it in the family" to a new level...

 

I'm not pushing Russian deniability. I went to college for Political Science and Criminal Justice. That's the way my mind works. First I see the circumstantial evidence, then establish a Prima Facia case. After that, I do my best to establish a hard evidence case beyond reasonable doubt. Preponderance of evidence is used in civil cases. That's how the evidence is stacked before a jury. In criminal cases you've got to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt. That's why OJ got off. Johnny C established doubt in the minds of that jury. Please don't think that I'm on here to defend anyone. Putin may be guilty as sin on this one; but, you'll need a hard linkage besides the substance used in the attack. I think the Brits need to establish the presence of Russian agents nearby, maybe at a hotel, or car rental joint? Maybe the last two victims were in contact with Russians? There has to be more to this case. When the Israelis killed that man in Dubai, they used fake passports and got away with the killing, even though hard evidence linked them to the crime scene. Gerald Bull was killed in Europe at a hotel and Israeli agents were suspected but never brought to justice. International law seems to be the tool of the more powerful nations; and, that takes me back to Poli Sci classes: Might Makes Right! Panama gets invaded! Iraq gets invaded! Afghanistan gets invaded!

 

Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court is Brett Kavanaugh. I admit I don't know much about him yet, and I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I'm already somewhat concerned. He worked for Kenneth Star (who I absolutely can't stand) leading up to Clinton's impeachment. He has also presented one case before the Supreme Court seeking to have attorney-client privilege disregarded in the probe of Vince Foster's death. The court disagreed by a vote of 6-3. So he was basically part of the witch hunt during the Clinton administration. The confirmation hearing should be interesting.

 

I just read a bit about him, nothing in depth though. I dunno. He seems okay in some regards. And not okay in others. His connection to the Bush family is sort of disconcerting. I saw a picture of him snuggled up to Karl Rove, one of the dirtiest men in modern politics in my opinion. I guess its hard to get to where he is in his career without making those political connections. It just depends on if he can set aside his political affiliations when making judicial decisions or not

I did read Ted Cruz doesnt think he's conservative enough, so thats a plus in my book

 

When he was working for Ken Starr, he thought Clinton could be impeached for lying to the public. Since Trump can't get through a sentence without telling at least one lie, that might sound like good news. But that was then, this is now. More recently, he's defended a strong Presidency, and has taken the position that a sitting President can't be indicted and should be shielded from investigation. I wonder why Trump picked him?

 

He helped to get Bush elected in the Florida recount. Perfectly connected.

 

What do you all think of his Supreme Court nominee? I think he's a good pick. Seems more moderate, as far as conservatives go. He's Catholic, so it's hard to say how much of his religious beliefs will govern his legal decisions.

 

He didn't, the Federalists Society did.

Totally off topic, but you could apply that statement to Game of Thrones, too...

 

Kavanaugh has said in the past that he considers Roe v. Wade settled law but that wouldn't stop him from voting to allow states to place burdensome restrictions on women's right to an abortion. It'll be interesting to see how Christian fundamentalist senators react to his nomination.

 

He has been picked because he can prevent criminal prosecution of Donald J Trump. He has been picked for the job by Focus On The Family and The Heritage Foundation. In his acceptance speech he tried to give the impression that his Mom was a liberal teacher who worked at an inner city DC school; however, he was sent to a private school. He worked for GW BUSH. He worked for Anthony Kennedy. He is completely a right wing extremist who thinks corporation should be able to screw the public. He is against any Consumer Protection laws. He supports executive branch power when the executive is a Republican and he goes against such powers when a Democrat is president. He spent 3987 days going after Bill Clinton, but does not want Trump to be distracted by a criminal inquiry. He's a total political agent.

 

That's what I've been saying. Everything "American Government" has been destroyed by the Trump Administration is just a few months!

The Supreme court may now turn more to the right, however I believe that congress can overturn their rulings by amendment, which means that if and when democrats get back in control, a particularly egregious ruling could be changed or altered. Plessy-Ferguson is one such.
