That coworker I mentioned is dressed up again. lol Must be another lunch time interview. I would be too stressed to interview during my lunch hour, I would be concerned about getting back on time. :grimacing:

    Wow.

One of the things I did at work, back in the day, was to hand-write the payroll for about 30 employees. There were great big corporate check books with carbon for creating the ledger. I had to "cut" - imprint the dollar amount into the paper checks with a big imprinting machine.

I also had to reconcile the bank statements for the payroll account and another "regular" account. That was a huge job! The bank statements would come in the mail, including every cashed check. The bank statement envelopes were huge fat things.

The taxes that had to come out of the payroll checks were looked up on great big tax wheels which looked kind of like big mailbox-shaped things.

Figuring was done on a 10 Key adding machines and big, desk-size calculators.

I had actual typewriters. Some were old school with keys and ribbons; and one had a fancy "new" daisy wheel in it.

The office phones were rotary dial. I think we had touch tone phones a little later. The phones had 4 blinking buttons to push for individual office lines and "hold".

We had an old school Coke machine that took coins and gave out drinks in bottles.

We wrote our "job tickets" by hand from big tablets of tear-off paper. The installers' runs for each day were laid out on the floor throughout the offices.

We had a master schedule book that was our "Bible".

We had file cabinets that we filed the completed job pages in; and the paid invoices which were four pages with carbon paper and had to be inserted into the typewriter. I actually mailed those in envelopes and put postage on them physically with a postage meter we paid to load.

Yeah...back when office work was real work...

God, some of you sound like insensitive fucks with all this death and dying talk.

Do you realize that Pete's Draggin' has just barely has said goodbye to his wife?

    I'm disgusted.

    Pete, I'm so sorry.

    In other news...

I got the Walmart and grocery haul done yesterday so there's really nothing for me to do today other than to pick up my granddaughter from softball practice shortly after Noon.

    What's Happening, Y'all?

Only famous in the Netherlands. She did some tv stuff. You mentioned attractive female cops, I think of Lust :p But I mostly admire her for being a cool and down to earth cop. She’s a raging lesbian too :(

Okay, I'm sorry for the mother-like scolding.

Pete's Draggin' lost his wife to breast cancer a few weeks ago.

He has written a very heartfelt post about it if you want to look up his posts and read it.

I thought most all of the regulars at HFs would have known this by now.
