We're doing it to protect our interests--allies being thought useful for that purpose. As for stabbing allies in the back, I think we (under Trump) are the main culprits in that area. Isolationist propaganda to the contrary is Russian-inspired "nationalist" propaganda--or at least furthering a cause dear to Uncle Vlad.
And at the heart of it I don't see the usual, greedy culprits angling for gold. What I see are the even more corrupt energy traders trying to pull an Enron-esque game on Germany and other parts of Europe. We'll see I guess.
Have I ever given you the impression that I don't like Trump? Seriously, how does the dipshit keep turning failure into success? One gets the impression that the Republican Party can only survive by getting behind him. If that's the case then let it die. If he gets re-elected in 2020 I'm going to have to drop out of society. Maybe I'll go live in a retirement commune filled with old hippies. Maybe I'll just spend the rest of my life on the road, traveling from place to place, my only address being my email address. America has lost its way, lost its common sense. I can only hope America learns from its mistakes. Yes, Trump is the worst President ever.
Did America ever have common sense? What was it Churchill said about the United States? The US will choose every wrong decision before finally settling on the right one? Something like that, anyway. We like the scenic route, I guess.
I’m going to call this early, and give future forecast: The worst president ever, is the whoever the next Republican President will be after Donald Trump. Merely because almost everyone in this thread was saying Bush 43 was the worst one, before Trump came along.
And he was.:Two recessions, two wars, torture, Katrina--plus the fact that he was such a dufus. But I must admit feeling nostalgic now. If he ran against Trump (which he can't) I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
It's a tie between George W. Bush and Donald Trump George W Bush was rightfully criticized over his response to Hurricane Katrina, but somehow Donald Trump isn't being held accountable for his response to Hurricane Maria on the isle of Puerto Rico which is a national disgrace. As of 3 days ago there are still 500 buildings without power in Puerto Rico.
There's probably something to this, but of course, the explanation for it isn't the typical 'libruls are hysterical puppets' argument the RWNJs love so much. I think it has more to do with what the GOP has been turning into since Nixon. Using racism, Christian fascism, paranoia, anti-science, anti-intellectualism and violence to get votes has been nudging them closer to something that is truly evil. These movements feed off of the right as much as the right feeds off of them. As much as I want Trump gone, he has already paved the way for more extreme candidates... candidates even more frightening than Trump. I don't know how this mess can be cleaned up, or this trend reversed.
In the past 50 years the Republicans have given us Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2 and Trump. Pretty spotty record. Some can argue that Reagan was a good President but I feel he was more style than substance. As for a worse President than Trump, who might that be? Hulk Hogan? Kim Kardashian? Who?
