In Trump's mind, it always comes back to the perceived glitter of Trump and his building height, TV ratings, and crowd size.

9/11: Donald Trump's bizarre quotes about September 11 attacks prior to becoming president
Before becoming 'leader of the free world', reality TV star propelled conspiracy theories and boasted about having higher television ratings than the 2001 atrocity

Donald Trump's bizarre quotes about 9/11 before becoming president

    excerpt:

"In an interview about his first 100 days in the White House with the Associated Press, Donald Trump boasted that his “ratings” on cable network shows like on Fox and CBS’s Face the Nation were higher than those for broadcasts of the 9/11 terrorist attacks."

    Remarks by Trump:

    September 2013
“I would like to extend my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this special date, September 11th.” Trump

    November 2015
“I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down, and I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down.” Trump

"I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius....and a very stable genius at that!" Trump

"Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart”. Trump

“The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.” Trump

“The point is, you can never be too greedy.” Trump

“My IQ is one of the highest — and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure; it’s not your fault.” Trump

“I think I am actually humble. I think I’m much more humble than you would understand.” Trump

“I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things” Trump

“I know words. I have the best words, but there’s no better word than ‘stupid,’ right? There is none. There is none.” Trump

“I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” Trump.

“You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young, and beautiful, piece of ass.” Trump.

“[The New York Times] don’t write good. They have people over there, like Maggie Haberman and others, they don’t – they don’t write good. They don’t know how to write good.” Trump.

Regarding his remark about the writers at the NY Times, Trump might as well have said:

"I'ma gonna learn 'em to write good like me."

In another example of Trump using 9/11 to promote himself, Trump said he would have had the highest approval rating in history if it hadn't been for Bush's high rating just after the 9/11 attack.

Trump’s Bizarre History With 9/11 – Rolling Stone

    excerpt:

“The advantage we have is — I am actually a very popular president, which people don’t like to say, you know,” Trump said. “In fact, I guess the Republican poll came out, there’s one at 92 and one at 93 and one at 90, and they’re the highest numbers that have ever been, with the exception of a tiny period of time with a bullhorn. But that period lasted for about a week.”

Ted Cruz is now begging for Mr Dennisons help since his race is tight. After all they said about each other, Cruz is Ok with him, and I suppose Dennison is OK with Cruz. Neither has a human soul---they are empty. Republicans have nothing to offer except keeping taxpayers money flowing upward.

Apparently he is breaking his arm patting himself on the back on how well he handled Puerto Rico after the hurricane (remember him tossing out rolls of paper towels?)

    North Carolina's fucked.

An independent study, from George Washington University's (GWU) Milken School of Public Health, commissioned by the Puerto Rican government, put the death toll resulting from Hurricane Maria at 2,975, instead of the previous official toll of 64. Not so, says Trump. He tweeted today that 3,000 people did not die in Puerto Rico from the hurricane (which is technically correct, the figure was 2,975), and that the higher numbers are a Democrat plot to make him look bad (no supporting evidence for that claim). Bob Woodward's book Fear was likewise dismissed for the same reason, Eric Trump adding that Woodward was trying to make a few extra "shekels" from the venture (oi vey!). These are just the latest examples of the Republicans' embrace of post-modernist relativism and alternative reality: "climate change is a liberal hoax", "the Sandy Hook school massacre was a hoax staged by 'actors'," etc.--whatever helps Republican chances at the polls. When reality bites, hop a boat up that long crocodile infested river in Africa.

Mueller’s Leverage Over Manafort Has Never Been Higher
If Trump’s former campaign manager has information about Russian interference in the election, now’s the time to talk.
    By Noah Feldman
    August 22, 2018, 10:44 AM EDT

    excerpt:

"That wasn’t a completely crazy assessment, it turns out. Manafort’s lawyers managed to convince the jury to hang on an astonishing 10 counts — despite the fact that Manafort offered no witnesses on his side, and did not mount much in the way of a factual defense to the charges. The split verdict gives reason to think that Manafort was legitimately rolling the dice. Now that he’s gotten a bad roll, he needs to talk to get a reduced sentence.

Trump knows all this, or at least he will be told it by his lawyers. If he thinks Manafort has information that would harm his presidency, now is the time for a pardon.

The danger for Trump, though, is that even after a pardon, Manafort could be subpoenaed to testify against Trump. The pardon wouldn’t protect him. Worse, Manafort couldn’t plead the Fifth Amendment after a pardon. He would no longer be in danger of self-incrimination if he had been pardoned for the underlying conduct about which he would be asked to testify. If he refused to speak, he could be jailed for contempt."
