well if you know the band, you should know mr roboto. i think it's their most famous song, even though it's probably also one of their worst.
So, the thread title asks (and I'm not sure if I ever answered) "Is Apu from the Simpsons racist". My answer is no, he is not. But stereotyping can be. In my corner of the world there are shop owners who are Indian-American, and other minorities as well. So, in that sense I can see a problem with Apu. It's giving a voice to the stereotype and not giving a voice to the Indian-American. So, instead of getting rid of Apu (or, as one article put it, sweeping Apu under the carpet) the Simpsons has an opportunity to create a harmonious transition into Apu being a more integrated character. Maybe he gets a job at the power plant with Homer. Maybe he's seen at Moe's. Maybe he loses weight. Something... anything. I think that there's a lot of space to create with Apu's character. I think it shows a sort of bad attitude on the part of the Simpsons that they are not keeping him around. To met it says, "We're not sensitive to your concerns; we're only placating you in the public eye." It's bad form. They're not trying.
Maybe they canned Apu because they didn't want to be micromanaged by the politically-correct mob telling them how to make a culturally appropriate character.
Uhm, changing the character to meet pc critizers would be just as sad. A stereotypical character in a tv show should not be an issue on itself. Changing stereotypical characters under pressure because it might offend people will be an issue. All shows would be lame and conform to a stupid standard
Oh, I don't agree. I think that a more politically correct Apu would be useful, especially with the United States as divided as they are right now. It would open the door in a lighthearted way for a better conversation around ethnic origin.
In that case the whole show can go. I'm not going to sit in the dark because some writer wants to take jabs at a minority. Of course it's easy for me to say that because I don't watch that show anymore.
Aparently it was the show's fans that complained about Apu. This isn't about a "politically-correct mob;" the writers are simply giving the audience what it wants. Free market capitalism, homies
The show's fans are a politically correct mob. A mob that gets their mental programming from sites like Buzzfeed and John Oliver. Politics is downstream from culture. Propaganda spreading journalists influence a culture by planting a seed in the minds of Simpsons fans that one character is racist. Then it starts a domino affect.
the seed was planted by an Indian American comedian anyways, not a journalist The Problem with Apu - Wikipedia
I think that's kind of true. Lots of times nothing's a big deal until it becomes publicised and gives people sitting on their arse watching the TV something to gripe about. Hmm what Apu racist? I saw Trump on Fox, must be true. Boycott Simpsons. Apu will ways be a lovable character to me so if he offends anyone, then I personally think you need to grow a couple because he's cool and your not. Well done social justice warriors. Now your life can change and you will be happier. Next on the agenda. Is Gloria from Modern Family racist? She portrays an ethnicity. Time to get rid of her.
Is that the cleaning lady? Lol. No no, I clean I clean. That never got old in American hotels. Every hotel my mate was like "no no. I clean I clean"
See it just others me more that family guy gets away with deplorable humor while the Simpson has to ax characters.
