The conversation around ethnic minoritities, origin or diversity doesn't get better at all by changing a tv show character like Apu in a more pc version. Can you explain how it would? If it would be a pc character there would not be anything interesting to discuss about/through him. Wtf. In fact, he was most useful (and also good lighthearted fun) as he was. It also seems obvious that changing him to a PC version, or getting rid of him completely because he's supposedly controversial, would merely add to the divisiveness in your society. So yeah, I don't think its about that. I think its about PC people insisting on getting their way, not about solving any divide. You picked a side and now you're adding to the divisiveness (i noticed it in other threads on here too. I'm sure it comes from good intent in your case, but what you're advocating isn't good at all). It's a pity the makers of the Simpsons complied.
Just because certain people call everything politically incorrect doesn't mean it actually is so. Even if Apu is offensive to some Indian-Americans he still is not a problem. But my guess is its mostly other Americans who find him offensive. And not because they experience it like that personally. It's some kind of retarded principle
Apu, shnapu. It's a trivial issue, but here are my contributions.: The Simpsons' Apu controversy showed comedy at its worst Why Excusing That 'Simpsons' Apu Controversy As "Political Correctness" Just Doesn't Cut It Apu Nahasapeemapetilon of "The Simpsons" controversy as comedian Hari Kondabolu calls show's response "sad" - CBS News The Simpsons is stuck in an eternal 1990. It’s time for that to change.
This is what apu is. If that's racist it's all on you. Is he supposed to have a native Springfield accent? And own a baseball card shop? And have 19 kids? Aka, anyone that says apu is racist...please tell me what would make him not racist. We all know that if the town was filled with Homers, you would have the blacks Jews gays Indians Italians midgets and Latinos crying that they aren't represented.
sorry I don't feel like further explanation is going to lead anywhere good. I feel that minorities are underrepresented. It seems like you have some leanings toward intolerance. I don't know what to say. PC? I don't folow.
I have to be honest. I see a lot wrong with it. But I can see I'm like the lone ranger in a room, well, full of Simpsons fans. I'll just say that I disagree. I think it is a big deal.
Never really seen the Simpsons.....well maybe half of a season but even I can say that the choice to find Apu racist is on the dumb fucks who think throwin' the word race around is too important. It's a cartoon character...meant to be idiotic.......get the ever lovin' fuck over it......
Nobody has a problem with Tosh.0 cracking racist and sexiest jokes. Tbh I can't stand the guy. I would like to punch him in his dumb metrosexual, gay ass face. Not for being racist or sexist but just because he exists ya know. If they can air shows like that, they ain't got nothing on the Simpsons.
That's actually not true, he made a rape joke and they, whoever they be, were outraged and demanded an apology which he complied to.
But still has a show. =/= nobody has a problem with him Ie. TV Media. I guess rape jokes aren't enough, like I said, family guy get away with it too.
Family Guy has numerous episodes that were banned, has been canceled twice, and has been forced to consistently tone down over the years. While they are certainly edgier than The Simpsons, they don't quite get away with everything either. Besides, the most important rule of literature is to "make it work." If you can make an offensive joke that makes people laugh instead of gasp, you've made it work. Family Guy does this better than anyone this side of Lenny Bruce.
Yeah, and that kind of speaks volumes about family guy fans. Personally like I said before, I moved away from family guy. Not because anything shocked or offended me, I just realised it did nothing for me anymore, it was literally a waste of my time watching. Pretty much like south Park did to me back in highschool too, became a point where I was just like, well this isn't really funny anymore and now that I'm 18, it's quite uncool to watch. But it was awesome when you were 16 because you weren't supposed to yet. Maturing here in my early 30s.
I don't think you have that logical comparison right if you're trying to say what I think you are. You mean to say something to the effect of TV Media allows for him to have a show, therefore they don't have a problem with him. Yah?
I don't really know. Maybe I've just got a problem with him. I don't like the guy, he skinny and ugly, his show is shit and he isn't funny. And I also might think if somebody likes him, then we just can't be friends. I haven't put too much thought into it just yet but that's how I'm leaning.
