When they do it, it's covert operations. When others do it, it's terrorism. I understand Blackwater wants to invade Afghanistan now.
Oh course - Trump is buddies with Erik Prince. The withdrawal from Afghanistan is just a money grab - just like the wall. There’s only one American still manaufacturer that can supply rods long enough and it’s his and Putin’s friend. Steel tariffs are just a mechanism to get the winning bidder that he wants
Yes, makes sense. That deal with the air conditioner manufacturer in India during the election was just a ploy too. In the end the Trump Administration gave the company 7 million to move 700 jobs to Mexico. It was all a show.
I saw on the news today a little article concerning that mystery corporation which did not want to comply with Mueller's subpoena. Apparently they are now going to the Supreme Court to try and prevent Mueller from getting the documents he wants. The interesting side issue is about a picture...a nude selfie! I wonder who that might be?
Trump has never exited campaign mode since summer 2015 when he announced his candidacy. It's the same raunchy carnival barker speech whether it's in front of troops in Iraq, at the solemn wall of fallen CIA agents, or the gathering of the Boy Scouts of America. Trump Iraq Visit Is Called a Political Rally By Annie Karni Dec. 27, 2018 Trump Iraq Visit Is Called a Political Rally excerpt: "WASHINGTON — During his surprise visit to American troops in Iraq and Germany this week, President Trump singled out red “Make America Great Again” caps in a sea of military fatigues, signed a “Trump 2020” patch and accused Representative Nancy Pelosi and other leading Democrats of being weak on border security. Now the president is facing accusations that he was playing politics with the military. “When that starts happening, it’s like the politicalization of the judicial branch,” said Mark Hertling, a retired three-star Army lieutenant general. Visiting troops abroad is a presidential tradition in which the commander in chief puts aside politics to thank a military that represents a broad spectrum of the country. But Mr. Trump’s political comments and his encouragement of supporters in the crowd veered from those norms."
WOW! It's about time................ (AP) December 28, 2019........Nearly 60 percent of U.S. voters surveyed say President Trump should be either impeached and removed from office or formally censured, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll The poll shows that a majority of voters polled think some kind of action should be taken against Trump, though they are divided on how far lawmakers should go as Democrats prepare to take over the House majority.
I noticed there wasn't too much pro-Trumpy trolling when he went to visit the Troops in Iraq...just so he could brag about his own stability and genius...and sign a few red ball caps.
True. However the presence of US troops in other countries pisses me off. I have been an anti war activist since 1969...almost 50 years. I remember Kent State!
I was a sophomore in high school at the time of the Kent State shooting. We boycotted classes that afternoon, but there was no punishment as it was near the end of the school year. I agree with you(and unfortunately trump) in that we should not be the world's policeman. Other countries don't want us occupying their land, and I don't blame them. How would we like it if Argentina said it was within their interest to occupy Alabama? I think our military should be a defense force, like Japan's. Cut the military budget, and the size of the military by 75%, and fuck that pesky military industrial complex.
That kind of isolationism was popular before World War II. But then we found that there were some really aggressive bad actors in the world who operated on a different philosophy. What would have happened if we had just let Hitler have his way, or relied on the Allies to deal with him? First there was the moral issue--racist occupation of Europe, the holocaust, etc. Can we just stand idly by while monsters have their way? Second, there's national interest. Is it realistic to think that we can dig ourselves in and be prepared to defend ourselves against forces that have taken over the rest of the world, used its resources to build up their power, and cut us off from needed assets? British PM Neville Chamberlain the great appeaser of Nazi Germany, seems like such a fool in light of subsequent events. He decried making war preparations over "a quarrel in a faraway land between people of which we know nothing." "I am sure," he said, "that some day the Czechs will see that what we did was to save them for a happier future." "And I sincerely believe that what we have at last opened the way to that general appeasement which alone can save the world from chaos." Yeah, right. Any objective observer of Russia, North Korea, radical Islam, etc., can reasonably foresee similar trouble ahead for us and other parts of the world if they are given a free hand. Unfortunately, the U.S. made disastrous mistakes with its Vietnam and Iraq interventions. The domino theory and grandiose Neocon aspirations were behind these, and should make us circumspect about policy overreach. World policeman isn't a role any country should undertake, but realistic pursuit of national interests is something no nation the size of the U.S. can safely forego.
I lived in Malta for a few years back around 1967 and they didn't have a military. They have had to defend their little nation a couple of times but have managed to be a peaceful people. They are kind and nice and I love the people of Malta very much.
Maybe we could get the Americans who think it is good to go there and save people from tyranny, to cut off the support to Saudi Arabia so the Yemenis could live a little.
