Anyone who thinks we're fighting tyranny by supporting Saudi Arabia is obviously nuts. Spreading the blessings of our democracy (which gave us Trump) in the Middle East is a Neocon pipe dream. Unfortunately, Trump brought back a leading Neocon, John Bolton, as his national security advisor, so we're back to that game. Trump isn't concerned with our national interest, only his own interest. The Saudis give him flattery and money, and supporting Israel gives him votes. Obama at least made an effort at a more even-handed policy.

Trump moves to freeze pay for federal workers amid government shutdown
    Nicole Gaudiano, USA TODAY
    Published 12:49 p.m. ET Dec. 29, 2018 | Updated 3:12 p.m. ET Dec. 29, 2018

Trump moves to freeze pay for federal workers amid government shutdown

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON – Amid the current partial government shutdown, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to freeze pay for federal workers in 2019.

The move is consistent with Trump's budget proposal and a notice to Congress in August, when he cited "serious economic conditions" in cutting pay to civilian workers. “We must maintain efforts to put our nation on a fiscally sustainable course, and federal agency budgets cannot sustain such increases,” he said at the time.

Trump signed the executive order late Friday afternoon. The military would not be affected.

Trump and federal lawmakers are still collecting paychecks during the partial shutdown, but many federal workers are not. Congress generally votes to pay federal employees retroactively after shutdowns, but this one is expected to drag on into the new year as Trump pushes for funding for a wall across the southern border."

I agree. We truly need a new and up-to-date review of United States Foreign Policy. The Democrats who plan to run for the big job in the big White House need to sit down and listen to what Jimmy Carter has to say. That's the good guy who hired Stansfield to purge the CIA!

Trump uses deaths of migrant children ages 7 and 8 while in U.S. cuistody to promote his wall during a government shutdown that he initiated and while freezing pay of government civilian workers.

Trump Blames Democrats Over Deaths of Migrant Children in U.S. Custody

Trump Blames Democrats Over Deaths of Migrant Children in U.S. Custody

    excerpt:

"President Trump blamed Democrats on Saturday for the deaths of two migrant children in detention at the southwest border this month, wielding the episodes as justification to fund a border wall.

The comments came in twin posts on Twitter, where the president spent much of the day denouncing Democrats as the partial government shutdown approached its eighth day over his demand for funding for the wall.

“Any deaths of children or others at the border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally,” he wrote in one message, his first public remarks about the deaths. “They can’t. If we had a wall, they wouldn’t even try!”"

Can Trump stop the FBI? Ask the 4 presidents who tried.
Facts can’t be fired, even if the commander in chief only faces them as a regular citizen.
    By Tim Weiner
    November 9, 2018

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/outl...31dcd53ca6b_story.html?utm_term=.82b101c75a07

    excerpt:

"Trump could fire the federal prosecutors — but others would replace them. And under the law, Mueller can be fired only for “good cause,” such as legal misconduct or a conflict of interest. There is no such cause, despite the president’s baseless assertions that the investigators are politically biased.

Even if Whitaker tries to deep-six the special counsel’s report, the underlying facts cannot be erased. The report will not be easily sealed and suppressed. Democrats in Congress will use subpoena power to try to lay hands on it. They can certainly call Mueller as a witness.

The FBI and Mueller already have established through indictments and convictions that members of Trump’s team (and Vladimir Putin’s) participated in a wide-ranging conspiracy to “obstruct the lawful functions of the United States government through fraud and deceit.” The statute at the root of the investigation — 18 USC 371 — covers violations of tax laws and election laws, witness tampering, money laundering and obstruction of justice. Trump potentially has criminal exposure on at least some of these fronts. And if that catches up to him while he is in office, he has only one clear way out: He can pardon himself. That would abrogate the ancient rule of law holding that no one can be his own judge and jury. Even his lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani, has called that idea “unthinkable.”"

I heard him say with my own damn ears: "we've got to take the children." No planning, no ideas , no sense, no morality and it doesn't matter to trump. So---they sit in cold cages with lights on 24--7 , waiting for ?????

I can hardly wait for the dems to take the house, come up with some ideas on how to work with repubs when they can, but never give in to their intransigence on issues that matter to this country. This is going to be good. And of course when Mr Mueller comes out with his and his co-investigators conclusions, I think he'll be gone. Maybe even the 35 % of his lovers in this nation will finally get what this man and those around him are really all about. What the hell---what else can he fuck up in the next TWO YEARS, if he lasts???

Yes he is, according to Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution. He, and the members of Congress and federal courts, will continue to get their paychecks, not to mention the pay Trump will receive from his business ventures, emoluments, graft and corruption. Under the Constitution, they all receive compensation that cannot be lowered during their tenure in office.
Why are Trump and those in Congress still getting paid during the government shutdown?
See who’s getting paid during the government shutdown
    https://www.oregonlive.com/business...congress-get-paid-during-federal-shutdown.htm
Presidents Hoover and Kennedy donated their salaries to charity. So far, no sign Trump will do that. If that ever happened, we'd know the Apocalypse is near!

He donated his salary to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Transportation, the National Park Service, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health and Human Services. ~ Politico

Hoover and Kennedy also donated their salaries to charity.
Obama donated $1.1 million to charitable causes, but I don't know if that was his salary.

    Amazing. The end is near!
FACT CHECK: Does Trump Donate All of His Presidential Salary, While Obama Donated None?
There were 2017 reports that he wouldn't show anyone the paperwork to confirm the donations.
Is Donald Trump Actually Donating His Presidential Salary?
Trump continues to take salary despite promise, says he’ll donate money later
Trump vowed to donate his salary. Has he followed through?
However, it does appear that so far he's following through on his promise to do so. FACT CHECK: Did President Trump Donate His First-Quarter 2018 Salary to the Department of Veterans Affairs?

After a life career in the Marines and the Secret Service as Hoover's personal guard, my father in law said Hoover wasn't a bad guy. He just didn't know that his Laissez Faire policies would have that level of consequence which resulted in the Great Depression. It took FDR and some forward thinking economists to save America from abusive capitalism and its ridiculous proposition of trickle down benefits for ordinary people. Today, Trump seems mesmerized by the same Hoover era economic horse shit which claims Big Business can save the world if left alone to operate free of government oversight. Give me the Sherman Anti Trust Act, says the brown madman! And some Angela Davis ideas right along side of that! And recite Voltaire...Rousseau...and Sinclair Lewis as we the Homeless drink coffee from paper cups on the damp sidewalks of this country!
