Racist

  1. It's weird the amount of problems people have with different races, nationalities, everything... When I was little people would make fun of me for being of Dutch descent. Jokes about dykes and what not. It's like, I never even bothered to think about ways to insult people for their heritage.

That's an Olympic caliber leap to justify the way you live your life. You should try out for the team.

I really don't think you understand what racism is. It's not the emotion you are having here.

Odd thing to me is they are very reluctant to say they are racist. It's either everyone else is racist or I just call it like it is. They go to debunked science from the 19th century to say one race is prone to violence or lower IQ for example. When they think this it's not racism it's science.

It's not a part of their life they think of until they meet people who disagree. Only then is the idea challenged as unusual.

  5. I've never known a racist, except online, who had any reason for it or whatever. I've just known people who kind of just did their thing but also hated "niggers." Man, you wouldn't believe how much racism there is in western Kansas. I was there for a little while and it was ****** this and ****** that. But they weren't really organized and had no organization to their thinking.

I think the more qualified person should get the job and if that's any particular skin color by coincidence then there's nothing to it.

And that's how we can start to defeat racism right there- we've got to hangout and learn about each other through our own personal experience, and not be tainted by what we've heard from relatives, see on the news, read on social media, etc.

I imagine that in the military, where your life can depend on the guys with you, their racial origins are the last thing that you worry about.

There's always a reason for it, but it could be they don't know the reason themselves. Or care about the reason. Its not that its a good reason. Most common seems simply a mix of opportunism and fear. But maybe in those areas a lot of people get born and raised with it as well, so they have racist convictions thanks to their parents and surroundings and think they look objective at the world with it. In this regard most people in western societies used to be racist to certain extent in the (not that distant) past.

Most conscious racists who take their racist thoughts serious might simply refuse to do this. We may be able to diminish subconscious racism, correct unintended racist thoughts etc. but a lot of people seem quite comfortable and ok with their racist convictions or getting perceived as racist. Here's often the best we can do as fellow citizens is keep their actions in check. They can be as racist as they want, as long as they don't bother other people with it. Of course they are always going to at some point..

True. But people do bring racism into the military with them, and it takes a good leader to identify it and address it. In the military you don't have time to entertain that shit, you've got other important things to worry about. At least in the military, racism is frowned upon, and its a career-ender. You pay the price for what you say and what you write.

Unless soldiers get split up in special battalions. I recall a doc about french african soldiers fighting in Europe in WW2. They were subjected to racism from every angle :( That is the worst... risking your life for people who still see you as a lesser being. It's of course fantastic on the other hand when they proved themselves in action :) (i would like to see those nazis faces when they realized they had lost or had to surrender partly thanks to africans :D )

Unfortunately, their are a small number of people who want to join both the military and police for all the wrong reasons.

During police training in London, candidates are shown REAL (not staged) situation videos and asked to write a report as a police officer and suggest what they would do if they faced a similar situation while on duty.
One of these videos shows a huge black guy chasing a frightened wimpy looking white guy along the road, pouncing on him, dragging him across the road and bundling him into the back of a car driven by his accomplice.
Quite a few of the candidates fail by making assumptions, but one racist comment or use of the "N" word gets them escorted from he training session and their ambitions of becoming a police officer end there and then.
The video is real CCTV footage. The white guy had just stabbed someone during a robbery. The black guy was an undercover police officer working on the robbery squad and the car was an unmarked police vehicle.

PS, Our daughter got that one during her training and was one of only 3 out of 20 who scored a marking of more than 90%. No one was shown the door that day.

During the Iraq conflict, the UK had a shortage of suitable doctors. As a result, quite a few newly qualified doctors who had scored top marks were recruited from India.
At first, they were treated with some suspicion by the troops.
On one mission, a guy was airlifted by helicopter following an IED and although assumed dead, a doctor discovered that despite cardiac arrest he still had chemical heart activity and had not flatlined. Within less than a minute, the doctor opened his chest, cut through his ribcage, removed his heartsack and sat pumping his heart with his fingers on the ventricles on the journey to the hospital. The guy is still alive today.
This incident removed all suspicions about these Indian guys and they ended up being treated like gods. In fact, no one trained in the UK would have been able to save him, but these extreme measures are taught to medical students in India.

The entire US Armed Forces was racially segregated during WW2, and there’s nothing worse than being sent to fight for your country, seeing your buddies get their faces blown off next to you, considered a hero for what you fought for (if you got ANY recognition at all) and to return to the very same country that sent you off to war and continue to be treated less than a human being, beaten, and lynched.....while in your service uniform.......
