Trump was on the phone to Putin again for over an hour.

    Wonder what was said?

People who work under Trump have released a pretty picture Jobs Report which claims 264000 people got jobs and as consequence the jobless rate is now down to 3.6 percent, best since 1969. I remember that year and every year since. Jobs used to be great in America. Now jobs in Trump's era do not pay well, unless you are white. Trump's jobs don't offer health care insurance. They don't offer enough to pay rent, to pay required car insurance, or allow for vacation time. Jobs in Trump's era don't allow a human being to retire. Jobs in Trump's era don't pay enough to allow an old person to pay off Student Loan Debt. AARP just reported that 3000000 senior people are still in debt or default on their student loans, after working a lifetime during Republican control of the Senate and White House. The Republicans rewrote the laws on student loans when George W Bush was president and as a result people have to pay until they drop dead. Other nations allow their workers to make enough to live on, to pay rent or even buy a home, to have health insurance and proper health care, to have free education, and to afford a family vacation. Other nations like Norway, France, Iraq, Turkey, and Iran are much more civilized than America and even have leaders who are mentally stable, not self proclaimed stable geniuses. Getting back to the jobless rate, this morning an automobile factory in Illinois is closing down and letting 1400 workers go unemployed with no healthcare, retirement, or any way to pay off student loans.

I understand what you are saying. It does sound too far to the left. But I am 50/50 on which way to go on it, because the Republicans have been cheating so much in recent years, as in Gerrymandering and vote suppression. My first choice would be to make it a federal requirement. If two thirds of the states make it a requirement, effectively it becomes a national law.

It's not that I see it as far too the left. Mandating that presidential candidates release their tax returns seems legitimately in public interest.

I just see a situation where the democrats could explicitly be shooting themselves in the foot for down ballot elections in 2020 for the sake of a moral posture. We'll need to wait it play out in the courts to see Trump's. Passing this is 2021 seems like a good idea.

Most of the jobs created are in the service industry. Those are the first jobs to go when automation kicks in.

I am not so sure. I live in California, and this is a very popular proposal.

No results from Trump's now defunct election fraud investigation of alleged millions of illegal votes for Hillary.

Climbing national debt under Trump, the proclaimed expert on business and the economy, who mistakenly thinks that it can be reduced by reducing the trade deficit.

Trade deficit has grown in spite of Trump saying he would cut the deficit with China by a third.

Trump's trade war is stalled. Minor revisions to NAFTA rebranded as USMCA. No ratification yet of NAFTA by legislatures due in part to Trump's ongoing trade war.

No progress on pledged $1.5 trillion for infrastructure. Financing was foregone to Trump's corporate tax cut whose beneficiaries aren't going to spend it on infrastructure.

No progress on healthcare reform, only sabotage of existing system by Trump to spite previous administrations.

No legislative progress on immigration reform, only unilateral executive maneuvers on wedge issues such as his travel ban, his wall, and DACA which he used as a hostage.

No meaningful progress on Mexican financing and building his wall that he mistakenly thinks will solve crime and immigration issues.

No meaningful investigation results of the so-called Deep State people in the Justice Department who Trump has claimed are criminals, including Rosenstein who was once scorned heavily by Trump but who has since written his letter of resignation that is favorable to Trump.

No investigation of Hillary that Trump had promised.

Undermining of the diplomacy system with Trump calling for a 23% budget cut for diplomacy.

Reduction of foreign aid due to Trump's desire to punish other countries who he thinks aren't conforming to his personal demands.

Labeling of long-time U.S. allies as foes by Trump while he praises world dictators and autocrats like Putin, Jong-un, and Duterte.

Trump is still refusing to release his tax returns that he had promised to disclose.

Continued belittling by Trump of the separation of powers and the system of checks and balances which are cornerstones of U.S. democracy.

Ongoing damage by Trump to women's reproductive rights including cutting off global health funds to NGO's that present reproductive options to women.

Belittling by Trump of science and modern technology in favor of old school technologies such as steam and coal. Disbandment of Trump's manufacturing council was an expected consequence of his mindset, similar to the disbandment of his arts council.

No progress on addressing the costs of higher education.

In spite of Trump proclaiming "It's all coming back" at a rally in Pittsburgh, the steel and coal producing industries in the U.S. haven't come back.

Continued embarrassment of the U.S. on the world stage because of Trump's lack of understanding of governance and etiquette.

Yes, the Democrats should not jump too far ahead of the game. They shouldn't shoot their load off too premature-like. The Democrat mood tells me there is a lot of freaking-out going on pursuant Trump changes to govt. as in environmental law changes, employment law changes, immigration law changes, and threats to Social Security and Medicare.

I've already seen computerized order taking at a McDonald's and my local grocer was telling me they plan to do everything through your smart phone and then at check-out your debit card will be charged. That way they get rid of all cashiers? If semi-trucks are driven by computers, and trains driven similarly, and Uber becomes the norm, what would ordinary people do for a living?

You might be right. I'm not into Trump and I think his taxes should be a matter for discourse though. What if - and I know this is a big what if - he did cheat on his taxes? Should it change the way people on this forum feel about him?

I think so. It seems like everyone who is in the support camp for President Trump is so dug in and focused on the news cycle really - just waiting for it to be out of the front of the minds of anyone who would oppose him if you know what I mean - that they don't really realize how bad he is. Granted that the job numbers (though I doubt doubt doubt doubt they are full time or benefits yielding positions) are impressive, but at what cost? No one, and I mean no one, has seen any kind of tax benefit in the entire middle class. What's the position of all those farmers from the trade wars? What are the taxpayers saying? It's like some have their head in the sand!

Hello from the farm . Last years grain has been hauled from the farm storage bins to town yet has not necessarily been sold yet .
Our 800 acres of corn planting is underway . 800 acres of soybeans are next . This is a typical Iowa cash/grain farm . Grain prices
have not been terribly depressed . What actually makes them great is when there is crop failure anywhere but here . Such a thing
can be cyclical , and traditionally a farmer is supposed to save money from the good year to survive the worst . Not all do , and
somehow they are the biggest whiners about anything and get their sorry faces on TV .

Concerning a relationship to the govt - beware of Fascism , which is Corporate/Government collusion . If the sins of Monsanto are
supported by the government , as favored in law and regulation - that is collusion . Fascism is sneaky ... stinky ... cancerous ...

cancerous like new cancer centers being built .

Oh , and my farmer brother says the govt did pay out the promised price support on soybeans this last year . 90 cents a bushel .
A bushel is 60 pounds . An acre produces 50 bushels of soybeans .

Trump on collision course with Supreme Court; justices may avoid interference in 2020 election

Trump on collision course with Supreme Court; justices may avoid interference in 2020 election

    excerpt:

"The question now is how many hot-button squabbles the high court will settle or sidestep in the 18 months remaining before Election Day.

Several factors may delay or derail many of the confrontations. The wheels of justice turn slowly. The Supreme Court turns down 99 of every 100 cases that come its way.

And the justices likely want to stay "three ZIP codes away" from political controversy, as their newest colleague, Brett Kavanaugh, put it during his confirmation hearing last year.

"All these cases are long shots for multiple, independent reasons," said Stephen Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas who follows the high court closely. "If this is a one-term presidency, the clock will run out while these cases are still percolating."

The likelihood that the Supreme Court will face a flurry of Trump-related cases increases exponentially if he wins re-election, however. Second terms tend to be litigious; think Richard Nixon's Watergate scandal and Bill Clinton's Whitewater investigation. If Democrats retain control of the House or win the Senate in 2020, the collisions could come in bunches."
