I can show you plenty of historic land sites around here that were once sacred to Native Americans that are now overlooked, neglected, and no one cares about. This would’ve been the same outcome for Mt. Rushmore had it never been carved.

An even greater "thumb in the eye' to Native Americans, particularly what used to be the southeastern tribes like the one I belong to, is the statue of Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Park across from the White House, and the portrait of same President on conspicuous display when Trump "honored" the Navajo code talkers of World War II. Trump honors Native Americans in front of Andrew Jackson portrait (Not to mention the face staring at me every time I use a $20 bill. Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830 that unilaterally swapped our ancestral homeland in the southeast for lands west of the Mississippi, paving the way for the event known as the Trail of Tears--the forced to march to their new "homelands" by militias at the cost of several thousand Native American lives.

Trump celebrated the 250th anniversary of Jackson's birth by visiting his home and tomb and laying a wreath. What was Trump trying to say here? He likes to identify himself with Old Hickory (despite the obvious differences of Trump's billionaire upbringing and nonexistent military record), who exemplifies the crude populism so appealing to his redneck base and embodied embodied Southern Scots-Irish honor culture. "Jackson symbolized the up-from-nothing story of so many of his countrymen. But it was a tainted legacy. He was a slave-owner who bought and sold men in bulk. When one of his slaves showed the Jacksonian temerity to escape his master, Jackson offered a $50 reward 'and $10 extra for every 100 lashes a person will give to the amount of 300' — basically a freelance death sentence. Part of Jackson's personal wealth came through land that he acquired even though it had been promised to Indians in a treaty. It's completely justified to say that Jacksonian democracy reflected this same grasping ambition of the newly expanded white voting classes at the expense of slaves and Indians.' He also introduced the spoils system to American government.

Should we burn that picture and tear down the Jackson monuments? I don't think so. He was a hero in the Battle of New Orleans and by most historians is considered to be a good president and certainly an influential one. "The election of Jackson triggered the rise of the common man, as he was the first president to originate from humble beginnings. He believed strongly in preserving the union and in limiting the power of the wealthy." He's been accurately described as the worst great president. Andrew Jackson was America's worst 'great' president I think we have more serious problems to worry about, and am holding on to my $20 bills! https://www.abbevilleinstitute.org/blog/andrew-jackson-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly/

After all the orchestrated efforts to bury and erase native culture in the US it’s a wonder that the culture has remained as vital as it is. When I was young, the land next door was a burial site that had been used over thousands of years. The first use of this sacred site was a dumping ground for trash. Then the area was turned into a gravel pit. Undoubtly some of the devout citizens of Oshkosh incorporated obvious human remains into their yards as part of the patio. What a travesty. We need to make every effort to help undo the sins of the past. I also
    Ike the Crazy Horse monument.

  5. When I first heard about this project I thought it was brilliant. I can only imagine what it was like for the artist to see the rock formation and visualize such a dynamic pose. It's everything Rushmore isn't.

I am part Cherokee, so this topic it's home. Andrew Jackson was an ass, and for all the good that Lincoln did, he was not a friend of Native Americans, either. Then there is this:
Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Native American Rights In Wyoming Hunting Case.

I've been gearing that there is some grumbling, amongst conservatives, that they are not sure that Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh are reliable votes on conservative issues; and they already don't trust Roberts(because of his vote on Obamacare care), and believe he will vote to uphold Roe vs Wade.

  8. I think Harris will shoot past Warren as democrat voters finally start putting these candidates on a scale. The news cycle is packed with garbage quotes from people who don't have a chance in a single state (not even their own). I seriously doubt the democrats will risk an all old, all-white selection heading into the convention. It's the perfect time to slip in Harris (or a wise Latina).

But the two remaining honkies have to take her in as VP. You know, to be "fair".

Their analysis is dubious. The data's here, and you'll notice there were quite a few female sounding names were only employed briefly. If they didn't remove the bottom 10% their stats are wack.

If she got federal wages at 95% equality as is in her campaign, her bill would be a success.

My only concern would be that companies would find ways to hack the math and pay all their employees less. "Sorry, can't negotiate your salary."

Her bill is pointless. When you calculate the differences in career choices and hours worked by men and women, the mythical wage gap disappears.

Men tend to work more hours on average, whereas women tend to prefer a balanced work/social life. That would likely explain the wage gap of Harris' staff members.

The wage gap is just a loony left wing conspiracy theory. Like white privilege, the patriarchy, the Russian collusion, and global warming.

and I know 6 isn't probably ever going to look at my post. But the facts are simple: there is a gap. It's problematic. There's no reason for it...

You're taking real information and drawing a poor conclusion from it:

There is an adjusted pay-gap. It compares men and women with the same seniority and the same job title. This is valid.

The adjusted pay-gap still shows women earning less. 5.6 percent. So a car or mortgage payments amount less.

New Research: Demystifying the Gender Pay Gap

I think congress staff are paid a salary.

I finally got white privilege after watching the end of Game of Thrones. Bran didn't do a damn thing all season, but he's the only noble white guy left who didn't commit treason, so sure, let's give him the Iron Throne.

The emperor Claudius was 32nd in line, and inherited the throne when he had the sense to flea Rome as fast as he could after half of them killed each other with poison. Such crude tactics aren't good for business today, but its the same old show its always been. The Italians established the foundations of western civilization, after Rome fell and they invented the modern bureaucracy. That way they could figure out who to kill and who to put to work. They invented modern franchises as well in order to cultivate the international conglomerates and keep their neighbors from eating them alive. German food leaves something to be desired.

If was an employer, and if it was legal to pay women less than men. I'd hire only women. Any employer would. Yes, stupid sociologists indeed.
